I’m a bit worried by the way that my Dad has been acting that my lovely mom is pretending that the Chemo she is having is going to give her years, rather than months, to live.
i only say this because i’m due to give birth in January, and i wondered she is having Chemo as a method of keeping her alive until i have my baby?
I dont know how this stuff works, she says that the Docs are giving her treatment to shrink the cancer, and that they would be able to give her further treatment to keep it “at bay” for “a good while” after that.
Would the NHS spend all this money on Chemo just to keep her alive for a few months, or is she telling me the truth and I’m just being paranoid?
Hi
I think you just have to take what she says at face value- and give her the support she needs. There are pretty well established treatments for primary and secondary cancer and she will be given what is the norm for her situation. I am guessing she has secondary cancer from what you write and as you can see there are ladies who have lived for years with this. I was diagnosed 7 months ago with secondary cancer and am still here thanks to chemo…as Dawn says what a lovely thing to aim for and have a goal, sure the two of you can enjoy this period even with your mum on chemo.

Even those of us with a secondary diagnosis can be here years rather than months. I was diagnosed with mets 4 years ago which is really down to the advancement in drugs now.
There are quite a few of us on this site living with mets for a number of years which will hopefully give a lift to those recently diagnosed with mets.
Hi Moderator,
After satcfan’s post went live yesterday I posted within minutes of hers going up. I posted nothing about other sites LOL, no link - just a straightforward supportive post. When I looked just now I thought I must have dreamed it - or posted elsewhere, but no. KatherineM says “as Dawn says …”
Could you please explain why my post is no longer there
