Is path report delayed due to test for her2/

Ladies
I had a mast over 2 weeks ago, and my results were due today. However, I received a call last night to move my appt back another week since my results arent back.
However, I was in hosp with another lady who had a mast on the same as me (later in the day). She called me tonight to tell me her results - they were good. She had grade 1 lobular, no mode involvement, therefore no chemo or rads needed. However, hers was hormone receptive and will have aramidex(?).

This got me thinking… are my results delayed because my cancer is not hormone receptive, and they have sent away for her2 testing (FISH)???

I have pagets, which I have read can be linked to her2.
Can anyone offer any advise or experience?

Lisa

My results were delayed by an extra 3 weeks on top of the 5 I was told to expect for general histology. These were the tests to determine further treatment so sound like yours (check margins, node involvement and hormone receptors as well as her2. I already knew I had BC and had had a mast and sample of nodes taken. 8 wks was no joke, and my MacMillan nurse eventually put a rocket up someone (she rang from my house, boy was she impressive!)

If you only have an extra week it’s not too bad. The results may be in before that but the team need to discuss these then your wait will be for next clinic day I expect. I was lead to believe all patients were tested for her2 now so why would your fellow patient be treated differently? Her sample was prob higher in the pile I would suggest.

Hope the wait is over soon.

Hi Lisa -
I had all my results back after 2 weeks except the FISH - I know it was HER2+ - the DCIS was 3+ and the IBC was 2+. 2+ is borderline for herceptin, so have to wait for FISH … bc nurse said it could take up to 3 weeks for that result. No reason why they couldn’t have given you the rest of the results though is it! I have had all of my results over the phone before I even got back tothe consultant. This is partly because I told the BC nurse that I would look them up myself and ring her for any worries… so she beat me to it and did it for me. I seem to have got to know her very well in the last 8 weeks and she is very aware of my feelings and knowledge on the matter. For me, why should a dr know before me? it’s my body… should be the first to know. She does know of course that I won’t fall apart and that I will ask all the questions I need to and that I won’t ring on a Friday when there is no-one to ask over the w/e if anything crops up…

Suggest you ring your BC nurse on Monday, & hope she’s as good as mine!!

Hi Td
Ive actually spoken to by bcn this week, and she told me that she had absolutely nothing to tell me, and that she would check each day if the results were back and call me.
I do hope this is not a fob-off because the last thing I need is to stop trusting her. Like you say, I hate the fact that other people know about your diagnosis before me - and particularly if they are holding back to wait until my appt (which could be days away!!)

I asked outright if it was the FISH test holding up the results, and she said not, and that if needed that those results could be got later.
However, I still cant get it out of my head why someone elses results could come back so quickly, and mine take another week when both mast were done on the same day by the same surgeon.

Ah well, I have a couple of busy days at work before Wednesday. I just hate not knowing for so long.

I didn’t get my path results for over 3 weeks and the pr and her- followed several weeks after.

You could ask your bc nurse if she’s phoning the lab or looking it up on the computer - the lab often lags several days or weeks getting things on the system… I had this - my nurses were great with me though - probably only because they know I’d take it into my own hands if they werent !! I’m not known for being stroppy mind you - I just know the system and work around it and use it well!!
Bloody Red Tape…
