Hi all diagnosed with tn bc in Feb 2012 with nodes involved, had lumpectomy, 3x fec, 3x tax, and 28 rads, age 40, before being diagnosed i was fit and healthy. The reason for my post is i don’t have any explaination as to how i got it with no family history, not over weight, i exercised and drank very little. the only thing i think i may have done was take the pill, was just wondering if there was a majority of people with breast cancer who took the pill. Just had my 12 month mammogram all clear, take care x
Hi Lea,
Great news you got the all clear after your year of medieval torture.
I am no expert but have read a few bits and bobs about causes.
I see you were triple negative - so your cancer was not one that fed off hormones, therefore logically it probably had nothing to do with being on the pill. The only life-style issue linked with breast cancer is alcohol. Otherwise it attacks the super fit athlete and the couch potato equally. It is just bad luck, and the experts really have no idea what causes it in people without family history. There is some thought that air pollution may be a factor, but nothing proved.
Good luck for the future. xxx
Hi Lea w,
There doesnt seem to be any ryme or reason as to what causes BC , lots of the ladies on this site (including me) didnt have any of the usual or known risk factors , the only things presently known to be a risk factor for BC is Obesity, and Alcohol, however, even that excludes me as i have never been Overweight, am T-Tottall ,Have no family history, Eat 95% organic , Had 3 children, Never been on HRT ect. Yet ive had BC twice.
I think in the begining a lot of us try to look for possible causes of our breast cancer , but it just seems to be the luck of the draw for most people. It is believed that at the root of all cancers there is proberly a genetic fault/link somewhere, but scientists are only just unravelling the 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA, which will eventualy and hopefully give us some clues to the cause of breast cancer, but still a long way to go unfortunealty.
Its proberly worth remembering also that Breast Cancer is not a new desease, infact the first ever recorded case of BC was found on Eygptian mummies as far back as 3000 BC ,so long before the pill, Hrt, Pollution ,Plastics and some of the other causes banded around today. Also screening programs are picking up more and more cancers than ever would have done in the past, added to this we all live much longer these days compared to a hundread yrs ago when the average life span was in the 30s, Try not to beat yourself up to much about what may have caused you BC ,as its nothing you have done and is NOT your fault, its just bad luck, The good news though (and there is some) it is thought within the next 10yrs breast cancer will become a chronic desease ,not cureable but treated for life, much like Diabeates ect is today , this will be a huge step forward, and cant come soon enough !
Good luck and all the best to you. Linda x
Well said Cornishgirl - couldn’t have put it better myself. I too had no family history, never obese, never smoked, moderate drinker, vegetarian, 2 children etc etc. What can you say? Well I say if I can get cancer against all the odds, why can’t I win the lottery?!!
Be kind to yourself Lea, none of us are to blame
blondie
Hi Blondie, you made me laugh think i will go and put lottery on ha ha!! Thanks to cornishgirl and Lola for your posts guess will just have to come to terms with it. Lola thanks for the copy post on the tn forum. Take care everyone and good luck x
I was taking the contraceptive pill for 6years
and was diagnosed at 24 so thats what
Im blaming it on
I was taking Depo Provera for 5 odd years (progesterone lead) and asked clinic if this had caused my BC, was told no.
She said if I had taken the ‘Pill’ then possibly, as it contained Oestragen… possibly! not definately
Maggie
Have no idea if the pill caused mine but I was on it for about 10 years and ended up with ER+ bc at age 31, never obese, not a smoker and hardly drink (maybe over do it at Christmas occasionally ) never had children though and excersise is really something I should do more of… Think I’ll be buying a lottery ticket as well, roll on Saturday!
Moonbeam
It was like you’ve been reading my mind Lea W as i was wondeirng similar.
Moonbeam1 - i’m similar to you execept was on pill fron 18 (for acne ). And there is no family history.
As already mentioned we may never know…
thank you for asking the question though… its been reassuring to read peoples replies
wishing you all a great easter weekend

I’m 41 been on pill for years, moved house & changed doctors my new gp was reluctant to give me the pill & said I was increasing my risk of cancer by 10x as oh was planning the snip ( eventually ) he agreed to give me 3 months more pills & told me to keep an eye on things , month later I found a lump & rest is history I’m 4/8 ER+ & yes I’m blaming the pill altho know its not definate the reason . I’m also blaming stress ( job & divorce ) & drinking too many wines after a hard day at work
oh has been frogmarched for his snip as i stopped the pill on day of dx, when Im thro treatment I’m going to exercise more & considering a new job with less hours, ive already cut right back on alcohol , other than that it’s up to my body I’ve done my bit after a massive wake up call !!
