Is this 'normal'

It is now 9 days since I had a WLE and a SNB (blue dye guided only). I am on no medication apart from my Diabetes and BP tablets.
Today whilst putting on my bra I noticed that my breast sounded like… my water bed with an air bubble in (for want of a better discription, lol. It makes noises like a bloon filled half with water sort of sloshy (sorry but that is how it sounds).
I was told that I would have stitches on the inside and out (but I apear to have been glued on the external surface of the scars). If I have been stitched on the inside then anyone got any idea as to where the noise would be? as surely there would be no gaps?
It is painfull when I remove my bra or the breast moves about still, although the scars are healing beautifully.
Is this ‘normal’ (and yes I hate that word too).

Apparently it is totally normal. My boob sounds like a hot water bottle and I mentioned it at my results apt last week (7 days after WLE), Seemed to think I was being silly and even though boob uncomfortable, apparently it is normal, surgeon checked. So do not worry but keep an eye in case it gets worse - some places drain if very troublesome. xxx

Hello Khyrah and welcome to the forums,

I have copied a link for you here, it will take you to a publication by BCC called ‘Your operation and recovery’ which contains some information about what you may experience following breast surgery:

breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=714

The webpage and publication also contains other information including the helpline which you may also find helpful at some point.

Best wishes
Lucy

Thank you Lucy and Tuesday for your quick and positive responce
I thought I’d better ask on here as I am not going to see anyone for results etc… for about another 2/3 weeks (which seems a long time to me).

Hi i experienced the same thing and as i have rather large boobs the noise was quite loud, when i first heard it i was in bed and my husband and i stripped the entire bed trying to find the hotwater bottle we thought my youngest son must have placed in my bed…
it does go away and i know some people will frown but i do think its a rather clever party trick!!!
Anna

Hehehehe thankyou Annamarie, that made me giggle. I too have large boobs and yes the noise is quite loud, I did not search the bed tho as I would have there ages trying to get a non existand air bubble out, as I am fortunate enough to have a water bed

I have got my appointment through for the results from the WLE and SNB tomorrow. I am a little apprihensive and fearfull :frowning:
I will post as to how I get on.
Anyone got any ideas as to questions I should ask (ones that arn’t included in the leaflets etc…)?

Good luck Kyrah. I just had my results and my top tips are;

  1. Do not be disappointed if all the results are not yet in - it’s August and some of mine were delayed, presumably hols.
  2. Do not expect al questions can be answered - esp if results not in - I did not ask any of the booklet questions are they really was not much more info availabe.
  3. Your surgeon may suggest re-excision - be prepared, apparently it is quite common but a shock if no-one warned you this may happen. It is often only to get better margins and does not mean things are worse.
4.It is possible that the surgeon may mention MX if the re-ex does not work - this does not mean it is a definite, so stay calm until all results etc

Hope this helps - thinking of you.

Love

Thank you Tuesday.

To be honist I wanted a MX and recon straight away, but was not offered it and when I asked I was told that they have NO surgeon that would be happy to opperate on me (42EE, so wouldn’t have minded being smaller) as I am a diabetic and a smoker (which I am trying to quit). I have healed exceptionally well tho and hope that this gives them less fear if they have to do more work on me.

I hope your results went well Tuesday /hugz

Ok am leaving to go to hospital in about an hour to get the results and I am feeling really scared now. My blood pressure is right up and can’t stop sweating…not a good place to be. I am scared that they will say “No you can’t have Chemo” how strange is that?.

Khyrah -

You have probably already left, but deep breaths and hoping all goes well.

I am waiting for same results but because of B.Holiday I won’t get them till 1st Sept - had op las thursday.
I am a naughty smoker too - and have healed well.

Hope it’s all good, keeping everything crossed for you,

Love & Hugs

Just got back and found out it was a 3.2cm, grade 2, ER8 (no idear?) PR4 (no idear either?) HER2 negitive and Node negitive and all clear margins  So all in all good news (I think).

Got to have 18 wks Chemo, 5 wks Rads, Tamoxifen for 2 years then onto a hormone base one (possiably).

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the ER8 and PR4 is on about please?

I think ER8 means your Oestrogen response is 8 out of 8 so you are very oestrogen sensitive.I am 6 out of 8,so fairly oestrogen sensitive. The PR one is progesterone but I don’t know if its out of 8 too ,sorry.
Tamoxifen works best with oestrogen sensitive cancers.
Glad your news was good, best of luck with your treatment

I am having such a bad day today. I feel all teary and am in lots of pain (from infected scar and constipation trauma) I am trying to cope with 3 kids running riot (4,7,and 8 yrs old) and it all feels too much to cope with. I just want to screem or cry. I have called the mother in law over to help and I am going to go to bed and sleep, afterall you dont feel pain when asleep.

Hi Khyrah

Oh so really sorry you arn’t feeling to good today, think your constipation is more than likely the pain killers they have given you.I had co codamol and didn’t I suffer, stopped taking them and just went on my own painkillers, try eatting alot of fibre plenty of water. hey a good cry is allowed hope you feel better soon

Loads of hugs xxxx

Hi Khyrah - sorry today is not feeling good so far but hope your mo-in-law is restoring order and peace - it’s ok to be tired and tearful post op… and u are in the wars with an infection - that will make you feel dreadful too so don’t be hard on yourself. Just say thank you to mo in law and give her ahug - she sounds a gem.

i agree with walton that the constipation is likely to be the hosp codeine based pain killers… lots of water, lots of nice juicy fruits…

the sloshy noise… well i had a seroma post MX which sounded the same so i guess it’s likely that it is just a build up of serum round the wound site… i went out with anna marie the other night so it’s as well we are over the party tricks!!!

But you results sound v positive in terms of benefit from tamoxifen - which i have just started.

Keep on trucking, it will get better.

Hi Khyrah, glad your results were good. I too had a bit of infection in my wound and started spouting like a fountain - I think it’s all normal and I hope you’re on antibiotics for it. I felt really, really tearful after my operation - absolutely anything - happy, sad, funny, kind - would have me weeping all over the place. I think it’s just the after effects of the aesthetic plus it’s all a bit traumatic isn’t it. Mother-in-law sounds like a very sensible solution

Love, Maggie xxxx.

Update: Still got the blodding infection in one end of the lump scar (the one from the SNB is fine and healed well) and there is a so called disolvable stitch hanging out at EACH end of the lump scar :frowning: one end has healed with the stitch poking out and the other has infection still.
I am still in lots of pain and have not been able to take any painkillers for about 2 weeks due to the constipation trauma…life sucks at the moment.
I had my echo today and my heart looks fine apart from slight thickening of the left ventrical which is expected due to my high blood pressure.
Looking forward to the meeting on the 17th and ready to face the chemo on the 18th all being well

Rant over.

And a big thanks to all the responces and support
