Is this normal?

Is this normal? Hello all,

Sorry to bother you all again but as this pain is worrying i thought you were the best people to ask as you have helped me before and it was very much appreciated.

I had my mastectomy on the 10th of April with an expander inserted at the same time.
From day one i have been in alot of pain, it feels like i have a brick inserted under my skin and it ts pushing into the area where my boob used to be and it also feels that it is trying to slice my arm off from under my arm pit, and wedge itself into my ribcage.

Is this feeling normal? and will it ever ease as the pain is still the same as day one. I have been given pain patches to wear as well as my other pain killers but to no avail. At this moment i feel that i can’t face another day like this and wish i could just go to sleep and not wake up again.

Hi Candy I have not had my mastectomy yet - its the 26th April and not been told about any expander!

However I’m more concerned about you - I would ring your hospital/Breat Nurses asap and tell them whats happening and get it check out - you do not have to be in pain

I know you are further down the line but please stay positive and talk to you family and friends, as you are very brave so don’t give up.

Not sure it will help you but had to reply with something just so you know we are here for you all the way.

Let me know how you get on

Love Sharon

Pain Hi Candy,

I had my mastectomy a few weeks before you. Painkillers helped, now doing quite well with healing. Not sure what an expander is though?

You should not have to suffer so much pain. I also would advise you to call your breast cancer nurse or the helpline on this website and speak to a nurse. There must be something they can do to alleviate your pain. Plus talking to someone might relieve some of the emotional build-up this must be causing you.

You poor thing.
Big (gentle) hug,

Jacki xx
