I have been looking at phytoestrogens…plant based oestrogens such as those found in soya and have googled a lot after my onc said ‘dunno’ when I asked if I can take them to combat menopausal symptoms. I have found stuff that says dont touch with a barge pole through to take it as it actually enhances the work of tamoxifen whilst relieving the problems caused by sudden menopause.
These phytoestrogens are widely found in soya products, linseed, and other plants…
Although in some ways the jury’s out on this. One argument is that in women without BC soya can protect against it. The second argument is that in women with BC it should be avoided.
There is no definitive answer as to which of these is right yet but I was told that if on tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors (please forgive spelling!!!) soya should be avoided.
Because I’m a veggie and supplemented my diet a lot with soya I have cut it out as much as possible, but if I fancied it now and then i would have it.
