Hi, just wondering if anyone else is struggling with getting their prescription of Zolodex filled? I have it prescribed by the GP and have to pick up the injection myself in order to have it every 28 days. But every month there is an issue at the Pharmacy. My next injection is due in a week and the pharmacy have just said sorry we can’t get it try somewhere else.
Not sure what I’m going to do if I can’t get it any where else. Of all the things that I’ve been through on this journey, this is the most stressful!
I’m only 2 injections in & still getting it via the chemo ward
When did you move to the GP for it?
I was wondering if I should move it to the GP but now this makes me wonder x
Hi Percyp
I’m due to start Zoladex soon, although I’ve not been given any other details yet. I would be interested to know how you get on with sourcing it and also how you get on physically when you start treatment. If you have the time, please post an update.
Hope you can find a solution soon x
Hi, I had my first couple via the chemo ward but my Oncologist thought it would be better if the GP did it. It is easier and quicker going to the GP. I’m lucky the practice is only 10 minutes from where I live rather than the hospital so I’m in and out in under half an hour. I’ve always managed to get the prescription in time, although last month it was the day before. My husband has just been down to a different pharmacy who have said they’ll have it in tomorrow, so I’m thinking it might just have been an issue with the pharmacy we were using, We’ve switched to this other one now so hopefully it’ll be less stressful going forward! x
Hi sal1,
I’ve been having the injections for a year now. I’ve always managed to obtain the prescription in time, and its only been in the last few months that’s been getting harder and the pharmacy I’ve been using have not been helpful at all, sometimes making me feel like they are doing me a favor in dispensing my prescription. My husband actually went last week to collect the Zolodex only to be told they’d given the one injection they had to someone else and that I could wait as they’d only just given me the last one the week before and wouldn’t need it for another two weeks.
He’s just been to another pharmacy who were great and have said they’ll be able to get in no problem, so I’m hoping things will get easier getting it from now on,
I’ve found having the actual injections to be ok, the practice nurse switches the injection between the right and left of my stomach and that works well. About a week before my next one is due I do find that my hips ache and lying in bed is uncomfortable as it doesn’t matter how I lie everything just aches, but I find taking paracetamol helps ease it. Also doing exercise and stretching helps.
Having them hasn’t stopped me being active or doing anything, so far I’m managing and coping with them.
Hope it all goes well for you x
My GP surgery great the practice nurse gives me my zoladex injection and that day she requests my prescription so I can collect it the following week from the pharmacist and if they don’t have it in I collect it the week after and I still have two weeks to go till it is due may be suggest that to your practice nurse . You can request which pharmacy the prescription goes to if your current one unreliable . Hope this helps x
Ive had no issues with mine but did forget to put the prescription in on time & it was a bit of a hassle. As its an expensive item pharmacies dont usually have it in stock & they need to order it in specifically for your prescription so id recommend going in a few weeks before your appointment to give them enough time.
I usually get mine from Boots
Just to start these & freaking out a bit so this is very helpful to read - thankyou
Yeah I get the prescription requested the day of my injection, I think its just that particular pharmacy. We’ve moved to the one based at the surgery hopefully, they will be more reliable. They were certainly more helpful in one 10 minute conversation yesterday than the previous one was in the last 12 months!! x
I was quite apprehensive when I first started them. Like any injection they aren’t pleasant, but my practice nurse is lovely and I’m in and out in about 5 minutes. Good luck with them x
I always put the prescription in the day I have the injection so the pharmacy get it the day after. My husband goes in a week after to see if they have it and they never do, they’ve either given it to someone else or just say they are having trouble getting it and come back in a few weeks. We’ve changed pharmacy now so hopefully things will be easier going forward.
