Itchy skin post radiotherapy

Hi, I finished my 15 sessions of radiotherapy 5 weeks ago and the past few weeks my skin, upper chest, neck and arms are so itchy.

I have been applying MooGoo cream, savlon, taking antihistamines and showering with Sanex 0% shower gel, but nothing is relieving the itching.

I’m going on holiday next week for a city break, so can keep covered up.

But honestly I feel like ripping my skin off :unamused_face:

Any advise for creams etc would be very welcome

@watsonbird Hydrocortisone is the one if its itchy x

Cetraben- you can buy it or have it prescribed

I had a similar problem though not such a large area . My breast itself was very red for some time but the worst most persistent itching was between my breasts where the skin wasn’t red . I was moisturising with Averno but Aloe Vera gel just on the itching bits was helpful especially after it had been cooling in the fridge xx

I’ve had the same problem , was all good till 5 weeks post treatment then started with itchy red skin. I’ve been using Daktacort cream and have in huge improvement in just 2 days

Thank you for recommending, I have been using just for a day and already helping.

@watsonbird Oh I’m so pleased. The radiographer recommended it to me when I started my radiotherapy. I actually got it from the GP but even if you buy it it lasts for ages, and you can use it as often as you like. This hot weather doesn’t help with itching! :roll_eyes:

Ive got a prickly heat rash after 9 sessions with 6 left to do. I mentioned it to the radiotherapy team and they just recommended aveeno. I’ve bought some and keeping it in the fridge. Also taking antihistamines. Im a bit cautious to use hydrocortisone cream during treatment as steroids thin the skin. Any advice? I am going to mention it again . I struggled to sleep last night. 30 degree days in the last week haven’t helped.
