January 2026 chemo starters

@anncuk Oh no love! Have you got some anti sickness tablets you can take? I have a fear of it too- just a horrid thing. You need to settle your tum asap. Cycle 3 though-you’re crossing them off xx

Yep same, I just expect to wake up and need to blow my nose just so I can breathe and for loads of blood to come out. Mad. It seems to get better as the day goes on. I might try Vaseline (I use it on my lips a lot) see if it helps. I feel like they’re taking blood from me enough without it leaking unnecessarily from my nose :joy:

I am having weekly paclitaxol and 3 weekly Carboplatin. I was one of the few to have a reaction which was scary but the team sorted it out quickly and now I have the infusion at a slower rate so it takes ages but better that than another reaction. I have hair loss and painful follicles and a bloody nose when I blow it.

I had to have a week off last week for an unrelated regular eye procedure and I was worried about an infection so I had a blood test to ensure that my neutrophils were up and had the procedure. My friends, it did me the world of good, my follicles stopped hurting and my nose stopped bleeding - all within a week! Last Monday my cheeks went spotty so I told the consultant at my appointment on Tuesday and she prescribed a topical cream which wasn’t ready by the time I left so I didn’t collect it. Yesterday the rash had all but gone so it must have been a withdrawal symptom, just something for you to be aware of when your taxane finishes.

@whataloadof Thank you! I spoke to the helpline this morning as I was worried about it my temperature fluctuating too. They said I’ve done well not to reach for the metoclopramide until now and recommended I take it. Cycle 3 and the toxicity is building! As for my temperature and flushes, they are putting that down to potentially an enforced early menopause! I literally feel awful today on day 9, usually I’ve been doing better by now! x

@sam1204 I agree with everything you’ve said here about it!

I went back through my notes & I had the same thing with EC-I was ok on the sickness, stopped tablets after day 3 & then needed to go back to them about day 8 when you’d think it would all have passed-so very similar indeed. I hope you’re feeling better this morning. Give yourself a slow day today-it’s not always a straight line of feeling better annoyingly is it?!

I was post-menopausal when diagnosed but chemo has brought all the hot flashes & sweats back WAY worse than they were at the time of my actual menopause. Especially nice is I can now feel all the sweat on my bald head!!!

@whataloadof Thanks so much, I really appreciate you looking through your notes and everything you have said has made me feel a bit better about this! I cannot wait for chemo to be over! :smiling_face_with_tear: xx

Husband noticed a bit of a rash on the back of my neck, first time I have had that as a symptom but my skin has been getting more fragile as the cycles go on. Also could be the Pegfilgrastim - really hoping to be done with that now.

It’s not especially bad and it’s possibly because I haven’t been washing my head very well this week wearing a ecg monitor that can’t really get wet. Comes off tomorrow thankfully!

Now starting 3 cycles of EC, three weekly (tomorrow) but off the Herceptin until this is over, because too toxic for the heart. Panicking a bit about how effective this is going to be-thought the Herceptin was essential for non re-occurrence.

Cycle three of TC tomorrow.. liver good to go so once more into the breach for me. Managed things like constipation from the anti sickness drugs and bone pain from the injections better by getting ahead of them with senna and ibuprofen but had other horrible things going on and as for the fatigue.. just awful. So feeling a bit apprehensive but this marks half way so I hope it will give me a psychological boost x

@awr Halfway! You’re getting this done despite it all xx

@awr Good luck with the TC today and hope all goes well! I absolutely feel for you with the fatigue…round 3 has hit me like a truck! But I think I’m starting to come out the other side of it a little now on day 10… x

@demimiray How’s the rash today? That’s another side effect that keeps striking here too! x

@grateful My cheeks like to go spotty too…last time it was my scalp as well but hoping that was a one off as a result of the head shave! Do you know the name of the cream you were prescribed? x

You are so right about side effect bingo .. definitely don’t want a full house !!!

It’s definitely not any worse, I moisturised it a bit last night which maybe helped. It’s not painful or especially large but a bit of a shock getting new symptoms! I was hoping to stop scoring on EC bingo now that I’ve had my last one.

Also my stomach is sounding BUBBLY!? Like bubbling and growling like mad the last couple of days - might need something to help settle it. I assume it’s like stomach acid related.

@anncuk sorry, don’t know the name of the cream. Will let you know when I pick it up.

@demimiray Thats what happened to me two days ago for the first time! It’s crazy how much keeps getting thrown at us all isn’t it?! I think we all need to give ourselves a pat on the back for ploughing on!

@awr Side effect bingo is exactly how I refer to it to all my friends and even the Oncologist! :woman_facepalming:t3::laughing: x

@grateful Thank you and no problem! I’m obsessively watching my face (!) as tomorrow is the equivalent day during the last two cycles that the spots start! Day 11 of 21! x

*update - my face is on fire again and flushing like it was just after the steroids at the start of the cycle. Just like clockwork!
