I was refused BRCA gene testing by my hospital on the grounds that they thought that I wasn’t at risk.
I do not recall if their eligibility questionnaire asked if I am of Jewish descent.
I am of Jewish descent and I have today heard that there is a significantly higher chance of carrying the BRCA gene because I am.
There is currently a scheme being run by the NHS to test Jewish people for the gene. If you go to the website jewishbrca.org you can register with them and hopefully get a test.
I have done so.
If you think I’ve posted this in the wrong section of the forum please re-post elsewhere.

I’m half Jewish and my oncologist wanted me to get tested for the BRCA gene. My insurance company wanted me to fill out some extensive forms before they would even consider approving the blood test and paying for it. I’m 67 and have no children. I’ve had cancer on both sides of my family so I already knew what my odds were.
I didn’t get the test but if I were younger and/or had children, I would have gotten it and paid for it myself. You should do whatever gives you peace of mind. Blessings to you.
