I have grade 3 IDC so on Tuesday 18 May I had WLE and SNB and am now waiting for results.
I’m pleased the op is over with because I think it bothered me more than I would admit to… it’s going into the unknown I guess. It doesn’t matter how much you read up on the subject and what to expect you don’t seem to connect the two.
I was very lucky as I didn’t suffer at all with the GA, I was up and about in no time and left hospital the same day.
I now have two weeks off work and am taking it very easy, my children are all grown up and are taking it in turns to look after me. This is also very strange to me, it’s always been me looking after them, what a turnaround.
I’m doing my exercises and that’s as far as it is. I will say that I’m very positive, just want to get this whole thing sorted and get back to as near a normal life as I can.
I would appreciate anyone wanting to share their experience with me who is at the same stage.
Welcome lesleyx - no one wants to join this “club” but you will find lots of help, support and information on this site. Sure someone at the same stage as you will come along shortly.
I a was diagnosed in July 2009, had WLE Aug, axillary clearance Sept and then chemo Nov - March. Finished 20 rads 2 weeks ago and am now on Tamoxifen. So I am at the end of my treatment.
The best advice I can give is to look after yourself, don’t try to do too much to soon. After my first op I was feeling better after 4 weeks just as I had my second! Take one step (or stage ) at a time. Waiting for results is awful, so no point in getting too far ahead of yourself. Hope your results are good. Take care Marli. x
Firstly, welcome to the discussion forums, I am sure you will find them a great source for information, advice and support.
I thought you might be interested in a couple of our publications and I have given the links below.
The first is a link to our Resources Pack, its filled with information to help you better understand your diagnosis, test results and the various treatments available.
The second link is to of factsheet which discusses treatments and results.
I’m nearly at the end of the long treatment road just starting my 20 sessions of radio. I was diagnosed stage II last September & also had SNB which thankfully was clear. I had my FEC chemo first which finished in Feb followed by WLE surgery in March.
I would say put your self first, conserve your energies for the healing work & if you get to the end of your 2 weeks off work and need more you should take it.
Good luck
You do sound a positive person and that is a good. I would say do what you are doing now, enjoy your family looking after you. Make sure you do your exercises, I did not want to do mine some days but my daughter always encouraged me to do them. I found them hard some days but kept them up.
Take one day at a time and don’t do too much either, listen to your body and rest when your body tells you to.
