Journey now beginning....

Hi Everyone

So I had my oncology appointment today and was told I would be starting my chemo within next 10days.

Having 3 rounds of FEC then 3 of Docetaxel. Have to have GCSF for 5 days post chemo. Any advice for this particular type of chemo?

Also discussed surgery options with breast surgeon and hopefully having mamoplasty and reduction of good boob at some time but thats some months away yet so got time to ponder. Talked about nipple preservation or not and higher risk of infection post op if I keep nipples.

Anyone else have to make this decision?

I’m lucky I can avoid mastectomy so far so shouldn’t winge about my nipples!

CT scan clear thank god and left breast biopsy also good.

You were all so right…now I have a plan the strange sense if relief is immense. Plan means we’ve started to fight this thing properly

Please all take care on your journey x

Hi Poacher, ensure you drink at least 2l water a day will help flush the chemo through, if your antisickness meds don’t work ring your unit no need to try and struggle through thinking this is what it’s like they will tweak your meds till they get right combination fir you. If you have long hair maybe think about donating to little Princess trust, turns hair donations into wigs for children, so then you can make a positive out of loosing hair, it helped me knowing I wasn’t loosing my hair for nothing and it was helping others. You should get a wig voucher from your unit, do ask. A silk pillowcase was more comfy to sleep on when lost hair, shaved it to grade 2 around 2-3 week mark after first chemo and it started to come out, again it gives a bit of control back to you as you decide when hair cone off more, do get your make up on, I didn’t and looked like action man instead of sinade O’Connor. I used black nail polish to help preserve my nails during chemo others have used nail treatments to preserve theirs. Your skin can get dry on chemo a good cream that’s worked well is udderly smooth with extra urea from amazon, when nothing else has re moisturised skin this has worked for lots of us. I kept charts of when I’d taken meds and checks on my temperature during chemo it helped me because you can get chemo brain and the steroids can have you bouncing off the wall, you will find you probably sleep at different times, just go with the flow, listen to your body Do what’s right for you every step Do join the chemo thread and you all do help each other through :two_women_holding_hands: :two_hearts: :two_hearts: :sparkles: :sparkles: Shi xx

Dear Poacher,

just wanted to say I had a therapeutic mammoplasty and both sides were operated on for symmetry. Yes the risks were explained, ie longer healing time, nipple necrosis etc because they have to tell you these things. …but I am now 7 months down the line and don’t regret my decision. I had no problems post op and everything has healed up beautifully.

Happy to answer any questions.

In the meantime though, big hugs. You’ve got this x
