July 2017

Glad to hear it went well Tatyana! Hope you get some sleep tonight and the food is alright. All the nurses in Manchester tell me the kosher meals are the best.
Surgeon checked out the issue with my other boob and said there’s nothing to worry about which is definitely a weight off my mind!
FeelTheFear I’m decorating our bedroom atm. I’ve no idea how you’ve coped with the building work. It’s only been 5 days and I’m already sick of living in a bomb site!

Well done Tatyana, glad it’s all done & “The Alien” has been dealt with. Speedy recovery now. Xx

Missa pleased the boob was OK I’m decorating my bedroom too so yeah def feeling it for Angela, Kimi is getting along well with her rads too I’m starting soon and Tatanya is doing well after surgery yey!
Carole we just need your cough to clear up x
Hoping you all have a lovely day it’s very cold but at least it’s not raining x

Tatyana wishing you a speedy recovery. Good news Missa about your boob.
My cough is going and not worrying me now I don’t have to keep temperature watching. In fact my temp has been below 36 since getting over the chemo, which kind of proves how high the infection and the Tax were raising it.
I’ve done four rads so far and today will complete the first week. Be nice to have the weekend off.

Carole, so glad the cough isn’t troubling you now. Enjoy your weekend off!

Missaconitum, what a relief about your other boob! Now you can worry about normal stuff like living in a bomb site! Good luck with the decorating.?️?️

Nice to hear from you Carole it’s good to know your back to normal now and getting through your rads how are you finding them x

Woke up at home in my own bed after a really good sleep. Amazing! Well actually it’s the spare room bed as it’s more convenient for the time being, hubby is on his own in our usual room. But it’s home! Never really believed I’d be home and stainless the day after my Mx, but it’s true!

Not much pain at all, except a sore throat from the anaesthetist’s efforts. Have already done a few gentle exercises. Only fly in the ointment is Charlie. Charlie is my Pico unit, I’ve yet to find anyone else who’s had one. They put a special dressing on the wound and a thin tube leads to a small plastic box with a battery, which is a little vacuum pump. The idea is it creates negative pressure around the wound and helps it to heal. Sounds good. But I have to carry this little box around in my pocket for 7 days. That’s a minor nuisance. the major nuisance is that when it does its little job of pumping to maintain the vacuum,it buzzes. Several times a minute. All day and all night. Can you imagine?
I eventually discovered that if I park Charlie on bed next to me and smother him with a pillow, I can still hear him but it’s muffled enough that I can sleep. but I can’t carry a pillow around in my pocket all day. Now I’ve got to find some kind of small soundproofing for daytime.
The things we learn, eh,??

Stainless was meant to be drainless!!!

Good to hear you are home in your comfy bed tatanya and had a good ights sleep xx

I also had PICO units for 3 weeks following surgery as I had deep wounds which needed healing from beneath the surface of the skin. In my experience the units only beep as a warning that air is getting underneath the pressure bandage so you need to apply pressure to the edges to expel any air. This should stop the beeping and ensure it’s working properly x

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it! It was beeping while I was in hospital and one of the nurses had a look but thought the dressing was fine. But I’ll definitely give it a go!

Just had a Google of the PICO thingy. Sounds brilliant! Before and after pics show some very neat and tidy scars which would be ideal. Just the buzzing driving you mad that’s the downside Tatyana!

Hi tatyana, glad you had a reasonable night apart from buzzing. You are doing amazing lovely ???would a bit of bubble wrap round it muffle the noise at all? Just a thought ??:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Kmkm, I’m so grateful for your comments about the Pico. I’d told the nurses before I left the ward that I didn’t think it was right, but they said the dressing was fine and the thing just does buzz sometimes. Well, it buzzed off and on all night under its pillow, and by this morning it was buzzing every two seconds. Then the red warning light came on. I pressed the stop start button and the light went back to green but it still kept buzzing. This happened a couple of times. I figured there was a bit of a leak,so the pump couldn’t maintain the vacuum and wasn’t doing its job properly.
So I called the ward and they told me to go to A&E. Imagine my delight!! Luckily I am only six weeks past chemo so I still got to jump the queue. After only three and a half hours(!) I was all fixed up with a new dressing. Everything looked fine underneath, but there must have been a small wrinkle or something with the original dressing. It’s now two hours later, during which time Charlie has buzzed precisely twice. Boy am I happy. Thanks kmkm for confirming that it wasn’t right and giving me the confidence to insist! Now I’ll get a quiet night, and more importantly I know it’s doing what it’s supposed to do.
Apparently they do give a really neat scar. My surgeon wanted to do it because my skin is very fragile from previous rads, and also she didn’t have much skin to play with so had to make it stretch quite a bit, so she wanted to give it as much help as possible. So I really want it to be working properly!!

Tatyana, glad you are home again and got things sorted. Have a rest now lovely lady ???:sparkles:?:sparkles:?shi xx

So glad you’ve got Charlie sorted Tatyana x

Charlie has behaved perfectly all afternoon and evening, so if he’s good he won’t need to be shoved under a pillow tonight! (I hope nobody is reading this who doesn’t know that Charlie is a vacuum pump!) Good night everyone and I hope you all have a restful Sunday.

Hi tatyana ??hope charlie behaves in the night and you got some sleep ???:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Hi Shi, had a good sleep thanks, feeling good today. How are you doing? ??
