Hi, sorry I’ve not kep up with the posts, been a bit hectic. Including not being able to get to my home on Friday due to flooding, the joy of living in a Welsh village….
I had my last chemo today, woohoo!! Nearly didn’t happen as wbc was 0.8 from blood test on Friday, but they redid it today and it had gone back up to 9! Been stabbed a 1000 times as they could get the cannula to work in my rubbish veins. But it’s done and dusted.
Now on to radiotherapy and continuing with phesgo every three weeks, injection in leg.
I also had confusing news from onco. I was diagnosed as her2 + and weakly oestrogen positive and was told I would be put on a hormone blocker, and was shown the nhs predict which looked very good if you are ostrogen + and have hormone blockers. Now I’ve been told they won’t be effective as I’m only weakly + and onco would be happy if I don’t take blockers. Which sounds good, but he gave me the predict score for someone who isn’t hormone positive and the 10 yr survival is 20% lower which was a shock and I feel like I’m going through diagnosis again.
Anyway, sorry for the really long rant and being a bit depressing.
I hope everyone else is doing ok and getting closer to the end of chemo. I’d love to hear anyone else’s news or stories, good or bad.
Love to you all xxx
Hi @emsj, Well done on getting through your last chemo, I’m so pleased for you! I hope it isn’t hitting you too badly. And sorry to hear about your confusion from the oncologist, I sometimes feel they are a bit clinical and don’t really get how it sounds to us.
I have my last chemo next Tuesday and finally feel like I’ve recovered from the last round, it seems to take a bit longer with each one. I have a bit of a cold today so I’m really hoping it won’t mean a delay on my last chemo, I just want it over with now.
@Hawketower, how have you been with this round of chemo? I hope the reduction has made it easier on you.
I hope everyone is doing okay.
Best wishes x
Thanks @NikiR , I am feeling more tired, slept most of the day yesterday, but the other side effects are still not as bad as first 2 cycles. I’m just thinking by this time next week I will be feeling a bit better and not having to face another round!! (Knocking on wood here, like, a lot😬). I feel a bit boosted knowing it is the last chemo, it helps.
I hope you are having some good days before your last round. Last round!! Those are good words.
How is everyone doing? I really hope you are all ok and getting through this shit. We are all stronger than we realise, we’ve been doing this since bloody July! I don’t drink but I’m raising a virtual glass to everyone’s stamina and resilience!! Keep going.
XXX
Whooo hooo I can hear the joy in your post when your saying last round hope you’ve lined up a nice treat for yourself I had a bottle of Chanel to celebrate finishing chemo back in 2018 Shi xx
Good morning all, I hope everyone is doing okay.
I had my last round of chemo yesterday. I had quite mixed feeling coming to the end, I think it’s because I have had a plan for the last four months and now I’m back to waiting. My daughter got very emotional, bless her.
I had some unexpected news come back from my genetic testing, I have tested positive for the ATM gene with is a moderate risk gene so was told I will now just need radiotherapy. I got a call from the genetic service on Monday to say that my risk assessment has come back with a higher risk so they would now offer a full double mastectomy. They did say that these results are not completely accurate due to me being adopted and having limited family history information. I now need to wait to see my oncologist to decide on next treatment plan. Once again back to waiting.
How is everyone else doing? @emsj have you recovered from your last round?
Take care all xx
Do ask about booster rads too, I had 15 and 5 boosters, just a question you might not know about that you can ask hope that helps Shi xx
@NikiR more flipping waiting, that must be doing your head in do you have a date for your onc appointment yet? I hope you get sorted soon.
@emsj how are you feeling now? Great news re last chemo that predict score thing sounded like a kick in the teeth, have you gotten your head around it? I wouldn’t have a clue what they meant, I think they forget that they’ve studied all this stuff whereas we’re just unwilling participants.
My chemo went ok, had far less bone pain with the reduced dose and managed to stay out of hospital this time though I did get told off by the onc yesterday for not ringing them when I’d a few days of high temps. Whatevs, I wasn’t gonna spoil my nephew’s birthday! Now taking antibiotics for phlebitis My last chemo is on Monday coming. Then MRI on 16th to decide surgery options. Can’t wait for this to be over!
Take care xx
Have had the lurgy and 38.x temps all week and they told me to come in Friday to get checked. Bloods fine thankfully and chest X-ray clear so should be all steam ahead tomorrow for my Last Chemo!! . Hope I get some sleep while on the roids how’s everyone doing? Xx
hawktower for last one tomorrow Shi xx
Thanks @Shi but they wouldn’t do it. Got to my chemo appointment this morning, sat in a room waiting for Phesgo, registrar came in and said a swab they took on Friday says I’ve Parainfluenza 4, then she took my temp, gone up to 37.9, went out, rang my consultant, came back in and said they’re agreed that it’s not safe to do my chemo this week. So I’m on more antibiotics and chemo next Monday instead. And we get closer to Christmas with every delay
@Hawketower so sorry you’re still unwell and your last chemo has been delayed. Wishing you a speedy recovery and fingers crossed for next Monday.
My last round has been a bit kinder, I’ve slept a lot and am struggling to find things that taste okay but on the whole, not too bad. I’m seeing the oncologist on Wednesday so hopefully I will find out what the next plan is.
How is everyone else doing? It seems many of us are coming to the end of chemo and it sounds like next steps vary.
Best wishes to all x
Hawketower, sorry it’s been delayed nearly there and hopefully you’ll bounce back quick when chemos finished, are you having rads after? Remember how far you’ve come already and how amazing you are and get your treat planned for finishing chemo keep focused Shi xx
Hi everyone,
@Hawketower , so sorry your chemo has been delayed, but it’s better than getting even more poorly. Hopefully you will get over this virus quickly.
@NikiR , last chemo done! Yay! Glad it’s not been too bad. I’ve also found I’m really tired, and some of the SE came at different times, very sore mouth for this last one, and still have diarrhoea in this third week since chemo, which likes to happen at surpise times which is not helpful:grimacing:
I went to a different hospital today about radiotherapy as it’s not done at the hospital closest to me, the doctor there had a completely different opinion about whether I should have hormone therapy or zoledronic acid infusions to the oncologist in the other hospital, which just makes things so confusing…… both are my choice, both have a low % advantage on the breast predict score for 10 year survival.
I will be doing accelerated radiotherapy which is over 5 days instead of over 3/4 weeks. He is only targeting the breast not the lymph nodes, which is also not the same as what the oncologist had told me.
So although I’m feeling ok and I’m so happy to have finished chemo, I’m feeling very confused about the following treatments. I’m still absorbing the information, but it’s very frustrating.
Hope everyone is well
Xxx
I’m really sorry to hear about the genetic testing results and the risk assessment @NikiR. This whole breast cancer thing is so complicated and confusing, there don’t seem to be any black and white answers to anything as there are so many different factors. I’m also adopted so no clue as to family medical history, not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse, but it’s always a little bit weird when drs ask about family history as it’s not something you really think about unless something like this happens.
I hope your next meeting goes well
X
That sounds so confusing isn’t there anyone who’ll explain it all clearly ? Have you started your radiotherapy yet? Hope you’re feeling ok x
Got to the hospital for 10.30, finally chemo is going in at 17.00 they weren’t happy with one blood result and my temp was spiking again so I ended up on the assessment unit for a few hours obs. It’s embarrassing how many staff recognise me. So this is it, finally the last chemo!! I’ve cried several times already have to get up early tomorrow for an MRI but intend to sleep for as much as possible after that. Hope everyone is ok xx
Hawketower well done beautiful now get your treat planned ( mine was bottle Chanel when I finished chemo) Shi xx
