June 2015

Jacqui I live in Bathgate. Born and bred in Edinburgh . Just moved out here a couple of years ago. Where abouts are you? Can’t believe 3 of us round about the Edinburgh area! Maggies at the Western is fantastic. You’ll probably come across the director Andrew who is such a lovely man who goes out of his way to welcome you to the centre. He remembers everyone who passes through the doors and was such a great help to my daughter Lauren who was struggling with the my illness as her friend passed away in November with cancer. She was only 16 and naturally Lauren thought it would be the same outcome for me. Can’t praise Andrew highly enough for his advice and his manner is just wonderful.

Jacqui your last post went on as I was typing mine! A wonderful idea to meet up! Where does everyone else live who comments on our ‘blog’? X

Morning folks, final FEC is going in, no Hickman but lovely nurse got canula in first time, huzzzahhh!!

Barb, yup drugs for this round and extra for next, but decided to focus on finishing this cycle, then will think about next!!

Well done Vic with the cannula woo hoo! Hoping my veins ok for this afternoon too. Had trouble with giving blood yesterday - need to pump some iron before I go ha ha!! Xx

Drank tons of water (!!!) and they got me to run arms under hot water. Back home and just planning to relax. So so happy temp has dropped. Was so flipping warm and horrible last time. Good luck for later.

Oh re location, I’m warwick. Anyone vaguely near, would totally be up for meeting.

Hi Barbara,

I have sent you a private message about meeting up - if you go to the top right hand of the screen it has messages - think you simply click on it.

Hi Vic,

Glad to hear you are officially 50% through the treatment - well done.

It seems to be a tradition that “posters” meet up near the end of treatment and perhaps this something we should keep in mind - so we can all meet in person despite location.

What do you think?

Ladies, oddly personal, but is anyone getting hot flushes around chemo days? Doing ok following last wed, just getting hot and bothered!!! Temp is totally fine, just feeling bit yuck. Drinking ok, small appetite, thinking it is the FEC working through, just feels yuck!

Hi Vic,

No I haven’t had that side effect - hope you feel better soon.

Jacqui xx

Hi I had a few hot flushes my first round, face was red and chest kinda looked a bit like sunburn. Second round only had a couple as they reduced my steroids due to lack of sleep. Forgot to mention had a few through the night too. I called the helpline and they adviced it was a side effect from the steroids xx

Yeah I was warned about that too, that the chemo could start the menopause bloody brilliant !! As chemo is not hard enough to cope with, they decide to chuck menopause into the mix too. Sooner the chemo treatment is over the better. At least in my case they have started me off with the worst apparently surgery and radiotherapy are a walk in the park after thus. Here’s hoping xx

Crap. Just crap. On zoladex to shut down ovaries to try and help. Due another jab tomorrow morning. Will check with nurse then. Felt totally wiped out today.

My first two rounds it took me 7 full days before I feel nearly normal again. Had my second round on FEC last thurs and only just left the house today to go shopping. Defo listen to your body and rest when you need to. Xx

Just being moany. Felt okay Fri / sat, just not me today! Get frustrated to easily! Lazy Monday I think

I do too, stuck in the house feeling sorry for myself. Other half comes home from work and all I can do is moan about the **bleep** day I’ve had xx

Hi ladies nice to hear were all having typically good and bad days. I sometimes feel that I am being lazy and should be giving myself a push but maybe not! I’ve been having hot flushes too - face and chest seems to get very red after chemo but subsides after a few days. Has anyone had trouble with their hands and feet at all? Mine are starting to tingle and feel very hot. Nearly scalded myself in the bath last night. Water only felt warm but I was the colour of a lobster! They don’t tell you about some of these side effects!!! X

Hope it passes quick sar. Take care! X

Hi All,

hope you feel better Sar and are having an early night.

I’m starting the Taxol with herceptin tomorrow. I’m guessing nobody has gone through taxol cycles yet ?

If so, any wise advice to pass on ?

Also, anyone feel like mrs Potato head sometimes ? I was going out the other night and just laughed at myself… put the filler in to my bra… then the eyebrows need a little filling in with a pencil. then the wig… honestly !

I tried styling my wig before the babies first birthday party and it was a disaster… as I normally have curly hair I never had to style before so this was all new. I hadn’t even the right tools !

Thankfully my husband put the wig on so I could have a go at doing the back, but how do people normally style their wigs ? do you have a wig head to prop it on ? I have tried styling while it’s on my head but it keeps slipping…

Lindy x

Lindy mine came styled, as I would be useless! At the fitters they did offer to cut / restyle if needed.

The potato head moment, oh god yes. I’m clumsy at best of times, but this is making be spectacular. I do seem to have a good ability for inanimate objects to jump out and get me.

Good luck with those starting T bits…we are getting there ladies xx
