June 2015

Huzzah on MRI!! That’s fab. I get no 3 on wed, but have had daily trips to hospital for iv antibiotics for mini infection on Hickman line exit site. About to go for hopefully last one now. Managed to work each morning as this is my good week, but totally tired. Been a long week of work, hospital then poor sleep! However assuming this all goes well, I get to see two close friends get married tomorrow, and my 8 week old niece. Felt tough this week but focusing on the good.

Hi Ladies,

NMT - fanstastic news on MRI scan - what treatment are you having?  When I saw Oncologist on Tuesday when it measured manually had reduced by 1.3 cm - was so pleased.  MRI scan to be done over next 2 weeks between sessions 2 and 3.

This is my second day after number 2 and appetite has totally gone awol - do you all find this?  I felt a bit down today and had a bit of a wobble in front of OH and to be honest I have not had many of these - have had a couple of hours of sleep so feel more back in the zone.  What strategy do you adopt - one day at time or longer term - I think I need to take one day at a time.

VIC - I hope you have a lovely time at your wedding tomorrow and look forward to hearing all about it.

Cheers Jacqui, will do. That’s lovely news yours is going down. Had 2 trips in today, final blast of iv antibiotics, happily switched to tablets for weekend. Then, back in, as Hickman line is out! Swab on exit did pick up infection ( I cant spell it!!) so policy is to get rid. Its cannula time next week, hopefully my cack veins take it!!

Re how to deal with it. Had to learn to plan short term only. Blips like this week throw plans out, and it sucks. I’ve struggled with this if I’m honest, I love planning trips / fun etc, but this treatment has thrown lots out. Have to grit teeth and just plan each few days as I go. So 2 cycles done, I plan to have a cracking weekend and see what cycle 3 throws up. Its final FEC, so 50% done. Have a lovely weekend ladies. We are getting there x

Have a great time at the wedding vic, I’m due to be a bridesmaid next weekend so hoping I follow my pattern of picking up fairly quickly! Jacqui I’m having 3 rounds of EC and 3 of T. Then surgery, the actual surgery will depend on the results of the gene test but I’m still waiting for my appointment! X

NMT_1 my treatment sounds exactly like yours, I got my results back from genetics today, they say that they Although not conclusive it’s highly unlikely that my breast cancer is genetic. Looks like I’ll be having a lumpectomy after all, if it had been genetic I was electing for a double mastectomy. So if all goes to plan my surgery should be end of nov beginning of dec fingers crossed x

Am the same as you Vic. Have to take things a day at a time. It’s really frustrating but you really don’t know how your body is going to react. Have a wonderful time at your friends wedding today. Hope the weather is good for you. Let us know how it goes.
Barbara x

Morning,

Yes, seems it is going to have to be one or two days at a time which is frustrating as I am such a planner and organiser.  Finding I am resting more second cycle.

Have a good day.

Very early good morning ladies!! Wedding was so good. Wig first outing, friends that knew loved it, no odd looks from people that didn’t!! Managed to have brilliant time, and some cheeky fizz! Just got bit tired and left about half ten. Got emotional hugs from the bride (love her been so supportive through try this) as I had got there and stayed so long!! I felt like me. Just got one very hungover hubby snoring next to me!!! Have a good day gang x

Good morning ladies. Vic im so glad you had a good time yesterday, it’s so nice to feel normal once in a while! How you feeling after your infection last week? I felt so sorry that that had happened.as it was meant to be your good week. Here’s hoping all is ok for your next treatment on Wednesday. I’m in at half two on Wednesday and that will be the last FEC then on to the dreaded Tax. Hope its not as bad as some people make out! HAve a good week. Barbara xx

Barbara we are on exact same cycle. Final FEC 8.30 wed, then gulp T. am feeling good, just bit tired. Caught infection really early, so oddly it didn’t make me feel ill, just tiring week. Worked each morning, then 7 trips to hospital in 5 days. One upside though, no Hickman line means no more line care appts…so that’s about 12 appts cancelled!!

Vic so glad you enjoyed the wedding so much !! And after such a tough week as well.
Also lovely to hear tumours reducing and treatment working !
I enquired before but it may have got lost in forum traffic but I have just finished my 4 doses of ac which were every 2 weeks and am due to start on 12 weekly doses of taxol.
As I had little side effects from the ac which was unexpected I’m not sure what to expect from the taxol. The oncologist said its not as bad as the ac part but I’m very nervous. Anyone can tell me what to expect ?
Also, apart from the drugs, what do you eat/juice to keep you healthy ? I’m sick of trying to watch what I eat, thankfully I have had no loss of appetite so I’m lucky .
Any tasty and good recipes for getting as much into my diet are welcome !
Have a lovely day !

Good morning,

I have used the cold cap but unfortunately my hair has shredded so much since Round 2 last Wednesday |I think I need to have the rest shaved off and that will be one less worry.  Yesterday I went out with my wig on and went to a coffee shop with my mum and to be honest the wig is looking at lot better than the hair that I have left.  So whilst a little self concious it was not too bad.

For those of you have shaved your head how do you take care of your scalp?

I don’t even feel upset just practical as I am fed up with hairs being everywhere.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Hi Jacqui
Sorry it didn’t work for you. I’m halfway through round 2 and am thinking about having it re shaved this week. Got some bits of regrow the and I don’t want them falling out everywhere next week!
I’ve been using Simple shampoo or my toddlers Loreal strawberry shampoo. Both seem to be fine but the strawberry smells nicer.
Good for you with the wig, think the first outings the hardest.
One of my friends said mine looked better than my normal hair! Decided not to take offence at that and take it as meaning it looked really good! x

Hi Sara,

I think my wig does look better than my real hair - just had a BT engineer in who couldn’t work out the problem - so I have had to maintain eye to eye contact with him for 1 hour.  He didn’t bat an eyelid.

The first couple of times will aways be the hardest.

Good for you!
The only problem I’ve found is that they’re not brilliant in the wind.
Walking down the road into the wind the other day my husband told me to turn around and walk backwards (he was joking). Apparently it looked very odd at the sides every time there was a big gust of wind lol x

Lindy thanks was a blast. Sorry am on FEC T, so cant comment re side affects. On food, I’ve tried to vary, find I get bored rapidly on anything if I keep having same stuff. Ditto on drinking, so far taste buds alright. Am cleaning test 3 /4 times a day and gargling mouthwash galore!!

Wig…would say the same, tidier and better than my fraggle style mop before!! 1st outing was wedding, odd seeing self with hair, but forgot after but. Am using really mild stuff on fuzzy bits / scalp. Also, and this feels odd, but lobbing on bits of moisturiser on mega bald bits!

Good morning ladies how are we all getting on? Vic, good luck for today. That’s us half way there! I think we will be leaving hospital today armed with steroids. From what I gather we have to take them for a couple of days before the Tax to help combat the side effects. Really not looking forward to the next lot of treatment!

Good morning,

Well had to take the bullet last night and get my head shaved despite using the cold cap.  It wasn’t as bad as I thought and to be honest the state my hair was in I would not have gone out like that anyhow without some kind of covering.

Today’s challenge is going to a Yoga class with some type of head gear on.

Had to believe Barbara and Vic are on treatment number 3.

Tomorrow I am going to meet the staff from Maggies in Edinburgh.  Barbara do you come from the Edinburgh area?

Have a good day.
