June 2015

NMT deffo call. I was told quicker you check, speedier they can sort.

Jacqui, yup have done some reduced part time hours after cycle 1,and planning to this week. Helps me keep sane! But really not doing lots. I didn’t cold cap, well done for trying, hope it keeps.

Re appetite, similar, losing a bit, but very up and down in terms of what I want. Plus no booze!! Think the steroids send it wonky.

My sleep patterns have gone nuts though, 3 am to 5 seems my time!

Hi
I’m day 12 after first chemo. First week or so after didnt sleep much at all. Appetite was pretty much non existent but managed little and often with great difficulty. Felt like I had the worst morning sickness as everything smelt gross. After day 8 I started to feel much better got my appetite back too. I cold capped and so far have had no great loss of hair have lost some but nothing drastic YET!, although this morning I noticed my lady garden was shedding, no great loss there xx

I started chemo on 11 June. Had my second last thurs. I have taxotere/carboplatin and herceptin. 14 years ago I hadFEC. I’m older now 52 and find TCH harder. I can rest when I need but the taste thing is hard. I’m hoping to pick up later on this week. The second time is hard and my hair has all but gone now but I have every hope in the new regime

Hi Ladies,

Really good to hear from people in the same boat - it helps to see how others are getting on.

Now that we have a July “class” feel like we have moved up the rung slightly - roll on September/October when hopefully we will all be done with chemo.

Keep going.

Jacqui xx

Haircut no 2, still moulting. Hubby and me having matching haircuts. No 1 all over. Popping into work tomorrow and now feeling wobbly. Gritting teeth and going for it. I cannot let this beat me. Thank you ladies for giving me a place to vent. Sucks what links us, but god I’m glad this is here.

Round 2- been told that I’m not allowed the cold cap due to the amount of hair loss I’ve lost since coming in for bloods yesterday!
Gutted and I’m having an epic strop but I think I’m allowed!
Had to wear my wigs this week due to the loss at the front and not happy about going completely bald - the feeling in the shower last night was awful touching my head!
Was advised by the nurses that they not allowed to use gauze or anything under the paxman- so that was out the question! Roll in this over and I can get my beautiful hair back- better not grow back grey tat will
Ad insult to injury!! -?vent over!!!x

Oh sazza that’s a definate rant you can have, how annoying. Hair loss is crap, but have been out in bandanas and honestly doing ok. Had to smile today, had two texts from my hairdresser, one has left so touting for business, and one from main place with offers. Had to resist urge to respond saying there was nothing for them to fight over! Brilliant timing.

Vic55- the hair loss really peed me off!
I’m holding on to what’s left as still a fair bit at the back where it was really thick!
Was same as you yesterday I had two groupons, an Amazon and a wow her email for pretty good salons I’ve wanted to try emailing offers! Sod’s law!! - well today I’ve had a pamper one think I’ll book in for that instead! Wonder if they do a head massage in a on!! Lol -
I’m going neon clothes shopping - decided my shellac:make up is immaculate every day and clothes are cold and bright so people notice them instead of my new do!! - going to purchase some bandana and a fake fringe ready for the school hols- wigs been hot and itchy but since we’re playing few trips to brach with kids thought a bandana would be a bit cooler! Xx

Am living in bandanas sazza, love em! Got some nice ones from annabanda, not to costly, tons of colours.

I’ve had my head shaved, not a number one, a proper shave so it’s all gone. Feels weird but better than having bits of hair everywhere. On the plus side my mother in law has just commented on how good my eyebrows are so they’re hanging in there. The rest is it’s going as well, falling out everywhere except my arms - how can I be bald but still have hairy arms?!?!?
Round 2 day 3 and feeling rubbish. Day 3 was the worst last time so was expecting it though. Same as you ladies though booking some pampering in to get me through. Roll on next Friday’s facial and hot stone massage. Sazza I’m with you, it’s all about the clothes, skin and nails, anything to detract from the hair. Booked onto Look Good Feel Better next week as well, am sure the goodie bag will cheer me up.
Hello to all our new ladies, makes me feel so supported to know I’m not alone. Kind of a we’re all in this together thing even if we’d rather not be.
NMT how did you get on with your leg?

You ladies are all doing so well, I’m back in next thurs for round 2, now I know what to expect hoping it’s gonna be a lot easier. Using cold cap too secretly hoping I’ll have no need to wear, my wig and bandanas xx

Tougher day today for me. Really awful back ache and no sleep. Bone pain…side affect booster jabs! Didn’t have it on round 1, unwelcome surprise on this ?. Come off anti sick meds and onto painkillers!!

Forget next weeks spa day. My oncologist won’t give me a letter to let me go and they won’t do the treatments without one, poor BCN just had to break the news. Apparently there’s too many germs while you’re having chemo. Is there any part of your life that’s left untouched??? Rant over.
How you feeling Vic? x

Hiya, tired but better. Painkillers worked. Re spa stuff, crap isn’t it? I had to get a letter to even get nails done!! Onc said no to anything else as due to poss allergic reactions. I kind of resent that I cant make that choice. Even if I had a problem, it was my risk so am hardly going to sue!!

Hi ladies I hope you don’t mind me joining this thread at such a late date. It’s nice to know that there are others are going through the same treatment at the same time. Like you vic55 I started my fect treatment on 10 June. I’m a bit older, 48 with triple negative and grade 3. How are you getting on? I’m looking forward to next week - hoping there’s a pattern to the treatment as the third week I felt near enough my normal self! Has anyone else noticed the same? Take care ladies. Barbara x

Sar41, enjoy your look good feel better session. I have been on it and it was amazing! As I mentioned before I’m 48 and only now do I feel happy with how I do my makeup thanks to the course! Let us know how you get on. Barbara x

Barbara hiya! Yup final week is def my normal week which is good as got a wedding next sat. First of 3 this summer. Will be time to bring out wig then ?. Tiredness and back pain have been major issues for me, but wonky sleep patterns are beginning to annoy. Think mix of drugs, heat etc, I’ve not had an unbroken night sleep since last cycle.

Yeah vic I know where your coming from there with the sleep issue. Lucky to grab 3 hours a night so now got to stage grab sleep whenever! How you feeling with the lack of hair? It’s kind of cold up top sometimes! Got mine shaved off for charity before I started my chemo and then last week what had regrown was coming out in clumps so had the remainder shaved off. The time not doing my hair is now spent on doing my make up and choosing my jewellery! It’s not so bad being ‘topless’ when you get used to it! How’s your back now? X

I’ve had a disaster with the bandanas - everyone I’ve gone to purchase has been out of stock!! - typical! - wigs driving me mad as been to hot and sticky for it! - roll in 23rd July when my son finishes for the summer! Won’t be doing school run! - wanted them for day trips out where planning but with how I’m feeling today I’m not sure how far we will get out over the summer! - luckily I still have my codeine at the ready! - had a rubbish few nights of lack of sleep - been waking thirsty too- not helping that even water is tasting disgusting! Roll on next week when I sorta tasting things again!!
I’ve got to admit now I don’t have as much hair to sort Ian spending more time doing my make up! - not tried the accessories only cause it turns into a fight with my two yr old boy! He wants to wart necklaces and bracelets!! Lol x

Morning Ladies,

Side effects on FEC-T round 1 had been minimal but on Wednesday thought I had a small urine infection - so phoned the helpline - before I knew it I was in a room by myself with IV antibiotics.  They were concerned my white blood cells count was too low.  Glad to report now back home.  Slept for 12 hours last night as sleep in hospital was minimal.

It is really refreshing to come on here and see how everybody else is doing.  Has anyone been given advice by their Oncologist as to how they will monitor shrinkage of the tumor?

Does anyone find the time is going slowly during treatment or fast.  I felt it was slow to begin with but is now speeding up.
