June 2023 Chemo Starters

My tracer was clear with no blue dye.

Soft bra tshirt bra to wear after the op. I bought pack of 2 from Asda. I wore them 24 hours a days for several weeks, was told to wear them until post op check up 3/4 weeks. I found with bilateral and bigger chested I needed the help. I then went to M&S for non wired bras to give better support, i, looking at getting some more and have posted a website on another post. I was told front opening are only needed for mastectomy.

As @Shi said front opening PJs and shirts or zip up jumpers or cardigan that can have buttons done up the front for daytime are also helpful not being able to be flexible with your arm movements. I bought linen shirts from Primark but my op was summer.

These are a good website for post surgery and non wired bras for all sizes.

For uneven breasts I found these on instagram, the sell silicone inserts to make your breasts look even.

I can recommend evenly bra balancers, I use  and Kate Taylor the owner and founder of Evenly is wonderful and working on developing her range even further  :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

That’s really helpful, thanks. I gave some similar M & S ones.

Thanks @Shi - front opening sounds essential.

Still hoping for lumpectomy but two tests still needed. So bilateral mastectomy not rules out until genetics back. Life is so uncertain!

I posted on the September thread about acupressure points for intestinal, nausea and anxiety from a www.pennybrohn.org.uk treatment programme on well being. Click link above for info.

I’ve found the nausea one helpful when I’m a hour or so from next tablet.

Let me know if it helps. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you @naughty boob @Shi for the great bra/clothing tips.

When I went for my tag, they also fitted and provided me with a front fastening bra to bring on op day. I also bought some M&S ones.

The lady at the cashier told me you get tax off and that set me off crying (I haven’t cried much). I said oh there are some benefits to this blasted ‘C’. I wasn’t expecting to be emotional but they come out in mysterious ways and when you least expect it!

My husband regretted not coming in to the store with me for emotional back up but he was also hoping to pick some nice lingerie for me and I told him to forget it.

It’s going to be ‘stays’ like the old days and some functional scaffolding :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::ghost:

I will need the balancers as I think it will be smaller - asymmetrical. I was told they will do the other one next year for symmetry after my scan. How lovely - another freebie thanks to breast cancer.

My breasts are medium sized and fighting gravity so will be a bit awkward with where the wound is/friction etc etc.

You are right neither our diagnosis, hair nor breasts defines who we are inside. We are still the very same person pre diagnosis if not better and :muscle:t3:.

It’s so much easier when you have lovely support on here (with individuals who have been through it, are going through it and also facing recurrence). You are never ALONE.

@rachel60 I agree one day at a time and hopefully you obtain positive outcomes and/or manage whatever outcomes comes your way.

Take care all, much love & best wishes and have a good Sunday xx

Hey guys, it’s been nice reading everyone’s updates! I have my final scheduled chemo this Friday, which feels like a big milestone! It’s also the day after my 30th birthday (I’ve decided to postpone this big birthday milestone until next year when I can celebrate properly and hopefully feel well!!).

I meet with my surgeon tomorrow to hopefully get a date in the diary for surgery. For those ladies who have had a ‘mag-seed’ magnetic seed inserted, what is it like and did it hurt? I’ve got a titanium clip already in the tumour, but they also want to place this magnetic seed aswell to help them locate it during surgery. I found the biopsy’s during diagnosis pretty painful… assuming it’s the same?

My exercise has slowed down as I’ve further through treatment, I’m just really tired alot of the time now - still walking each day, but perhaps only 20-30 mins. Every little helps though!

@rachel60 I’ve been to future dreams house a few times, and it’s lovely, I’d really recommend it. They do younger women’s meet ups which made me feel less alone. I also did a writing workshop which they ran virtually and it was brilliant to get all my thoughts onto paper.

I did a look good feel better workshop today at a hospital close to me, would definitely recommend, it was a nice morning and got to speak to some other ladies and came away with some lovely products to try out.

Sending everyone strength and love xx

Hi @Jess_1

Fantastic news you are at your last Chemotherapy in Friday. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I had a wire guided wide local incision with a tag that beeps in one of the breasts as the tumour was nearer the chest wall. The wire was not comfortable at all but the tag was like a biopsy. Quick and sharp prick. Not sure if the magnetic is placed like my tag. Maybe you could call the breast care nurse and have a chat about it to reassure you.

Hi @naughty_boob ,
I’m glad you had a good time with your son despite the rugby! I hope you have a really good time with both your son and daughter. You’ve got through a large part of the chemo now. Keep ticking the sessions off, knowing that you’re getting closer to the end.

It sounds like you’ve had a some real ups and downs due to the
PICC line and catheter problems. Have they now been resolved? You’ll have to celebrate when you get them out.

I’ve finished chemo now. The side effects are beginning to lessen. My hair still hasn’t started to grow, but I’m sure it will soon. I have had six out of 15 sessions of radiotherapy, which has been fine, but I had problems today, which mean I can’t have the full range of treatment that I would have liked to have done.

Keep in touch and take good care. Keep being kind to yourself. Sending love. x

Hi everyone - Just emerging from EC 3 and bit of a break before final one on 16th November.

Meeting surgeon again. Genetic testing was negative and just waiting for MRI biopsy result this week. Looking like I’ll have a lumpectomy on 2 Jan.

No idea what to expect but right now just looking to end of chemo and getting my energy spoonfuls back again.

Thanks so much for the bra information and @kateevenly discount. That is so kind and huge help. I feel my naughty boob has changed shape and size so did you all get measured?

So pleased the genetics was negative, that must be such a high relief. You also have a plan and a date for your lumpectomy.

Still need to finish your chemotherapy but your are doing it. Well done you.

Putting myself through it today watching Sarah Beeny v Cancer! After watching Rhod Gilbert SU2C pain in the neck at Velindre my cancer centre. It’s totally heartbreaking to watch but it’s also reassuring to know we are not alone.:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi Rachel, you are welcome to order a few different sizes from our website evenlybreasts.com and then just return any which aren’t the perfect fit. Alternatively if you’re in London (I noticed you said you are close to Future Dreams House) then I would highly recommend going to one of the fitting days with The Bra Sisters. They have one coming up in Harley St on 17th Nov and others in December. They have the full Evenly range so they can fit you in your perfect size straight away (although you won’t be able to use the discount code with them I’m afraid) and they can also get you fitted for a new bra if you would like one at the same time. The Bra Sisters are run by two women who both have had Breast Cancer so they are incredibly lovely, supportive and sympathetic. Hope that helps x Bra Fitting – The Bra Sisters

Thanks Kate for posting this  very useful information  :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

I had a sore throat with normal temperature on Monday so called Helpline and GP. Saw GP 11:40 and temp had gone up to 37.9 in both ears, told I needed to call helpline back straightaway. Throat was a bit red but she was more concerned about temperature and did blood test for neutropenia as risk of Sepsis is high. Went to Velindre to assesment ward for several hours, more bloods from PICC and other arm to rule out infection in PICC. Obs a bit elevated but temp had gone down to nearer normal, no paracetamol so not sure why. Told to strip to TShirt only. It was so noisy, no privacy for anyone talk8ng to nurse or doctor. Heard all about constipation as they’d not be drinking! Then a doctor discussing Do Not Resuscitate to an elderly lady and her daughter as she was being admitted. I had had a terrible nights sleep and just wanted to sleep but I couldn’t. Home just after 7 with antibiotics as I had a UTI, some bloods had come back ok, but others sent o another hospital may not be back until later or next day.

Due chemotherapy today and assumed all ok as I hadn’t had a call. 40 minutes before the phone rang from a nurse on the day unit to ask if I knew I had been cancelled this week, said no and we still needed to go to Centre to collect owing antibiotics from Monday. She suggested I speak to GP to sort rather than travel. She said she’d ask the Team to call and explain. 10 minutes later the phone rang to say my SATs were not normal and that as I had been admitted on Monday I should delay. No apology for not notifying me! Have clinic Tuesday so will, take this up with them.

I’m disappointed but realised it’s a positive thing, I’ll have a week with less side effects, the antibiotics have kicked in and feeling better. With a weekly treatment programme it will be nice to have more than 2 good days. Radiotherapy was planned 2 1/2 weeks after chemo to get it in before Christmas holidays but that will have to be put back now as I won’t have much time to recover. I was worried about side effects of radiotherapy so close after chemo and just before Christmas. I did ask the Team person to advise radiotherapy of the delay in my treatment.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hope everything is going ok for those still on chemo. Sounds like youre having a tough time @naughty_boob do rest up before your next session.

Its my birthday today. I’m 35. Such a strange year the diagnosis and treatment, but I’m very grateful to have got through it and be here to celebrate (though gently as im still fatigued from chemo myself).

Best of luck to everyone, and I hope we all go from strength to strength!
