Hi Rachel, I’m thinking of you. How was your surgery? Hope you are recovering well
I hope you are coping well with the radiotherapy
That sounds encouraging and another thing to tick off list. I think mine will be February but I need see surgeon on Friday to get details. I have sensitive skin too and was told by my bc nurse that aveeno is really good and to keep it in the fridge. Sending healing vibes your way!
I’m really keen to get back to running after so long. Thinking I might do the couch to 5 k to get me started and build up. Your programme sounds ideal.
Let us know how you get on. Xxx
Hi Guida - Doing well post op and movement not too bad. Doing the exercises and - for once - resting with two weeks sick leave. Fingers crossed for Friday.
How are you doing? We’ve all come a long way haven’t we!
Xxx
Hi Shi - Knitting and resting . Don’t want to rush and damage surgeon’s hard work! Results on Friday so bit nervous. All he said after the op was the sentinel node biopsy was clear and with the lesion “chemo had done a good job”. So we’ll see what’s next. I’m hoping to avoid tablet chemo if possible which would be norm for triple negative bc.
That’s great news. Keep exercising and moving Almost there. I’m finding a bit difficult to go back to pre-diagnosis me, both physically and mentally… I’m joining the gym (weight lifting) and I start my first session of 1to1 talking therapy next week. Health continues to be a priority in 2024
Sounds like you are doing all the right things. I’m on the waiting list for talking therapies. Will be interesting to see how that helps. X
I’m in London and I’ve in the waiting list since April…got a phone call last week.
London too - this comes under Westminster for me. Fingers crossed. Hope it goes well for you. X
Hello All,
@naughty_boob hope radiotherapy went well? Good luck with it all. I finished mine today . So far feeling good. Glad another chapter over with. Aside from slight discolouration, it’s ok. Been gentle with it, exercising, moisturising and fluids.
I met the radiographer for a review at end of treatment to discuss effects and ongoing care. He said expect some fatigue (not eased by sleep but feeling flat and ‘meh’) in the next 7- 10 days or so. This would also for me probably co-incident with a collective ‘sigh’ after being adrenalised (fight or flight mode) for so long.
I hope you got your onward treatment sorted out? I will contact the HER2 group.
Re eyelashes - I wear glasses and contacts too. Did not wear lenses. Eyes constantly watered esp with the cold and getting styes. Warm flannel on eyes for that and also optrex eye drops. It didn’t all go a few hung on for dear life! I was hoping they would grow back long and curvy but no such luck!
@rachel60 glad surgery is done with and you are doing well and taking it easy. Good luck with onward treatment - you will get there slowly but surely. You will be running again soon. I have gone back to strength training and trying to get the pull ups I was heading towards before this diversion.
Our bodies are amazing. They make disease and then they recover and reset.
Let’s hope they continue to thrive and remain strong & healthy. Writing this in a pub with a celebratory drink .
Looking back …if I knew then what I know now…
Wishing you all well for your onward journeys xx
Hi @Dhillman
So pleased you have completed your radiotherapy. Today was ok quite a long session as they had to explain what was happening etc. Also 40 minutes in total for the actual treatment as they were doing both breasts and they set up each side separately. The actual treatment with breathing was ok, breast hold both sides for 30/35 seconds, so odd when they say let out all your breath as they can see inside you!
I feel so much better after finishing chemotherapy and hoping the radiotherapy is not too tiring as I was trying to build up my time exercising (mainly walking).
Like me your are continuing with Herceptin until September, are you on Tamoxifen or Letrozole or Anastrozole ? I been informed I will be on Letrozole after the radiotherapy.
Glad you’ve joined the HER+ group, I think it’s important to have a group for similar diagnosis.
Like you I started using a hot flannel on my eyes to see if it helps rather than buy another thing. I also have a small wheat bag that I could try that I received in a charity gift bag. So far the hot flannel has received my eyes a bit and the artificial tears seems to have stopped the itch. The skin around the eyes are still very dry and flaky but hopefully that will resolve soon.
Take care
Hello @naughty_boob,
Thank you x
Glad you started your radiotherapy and hopefully you remain well with it and that you found some comfort remedies for your eyes.
Yes most of the radiotherapy time is taken up with scanning, positioning and breath hold practice. The actual ‘beams’ are literally seconds.
It’s just Herceptin for me no letrozole.
Good Luck with ongoing treatment, one down.
Best wishes x
Hello - got results today. Lymph nodes clear which is great. In the boob I didn’t quite get clear margin. Some cancer cells left but they are weak. So I’ll have radiotherapy next and then start a few months of tablet chemo which I do at home. Its easier than infusion chemo.
So I’m getting there but more to do. I was a bit down but …… They are leaving no stone unturned.
Triple negative doesn’t have hormone treatment so this is equivalent. Few years ago there was nothing other than chemo for triple negative and surgery so i’m lucky there’s more now.
Hope you are all doing ok xxx
rachel60 are you happy they are giving you rads and not going back in for clear margins? Sorry to ask but just want to make sure you are ok with their decision if you’d rather they go back in and get clear margins demand it or for rads ask about the 15 and 5 boosters maybe just want you to chuck kitchen sink at everything Shi xx
I think so but seeing my oncologist next week. Cape (oral chemo) seems to be gold standard for any residual incase cancer cells are still somewhere. Will find out what radiotherapy they want to do.
I know things have moved on for tnbc treatments since 2017 when I had treatments, just wanted you chucking everything at it rachel60 Shi xx
Thanks Shi! Are there questions I should ask my oncologist? TNBC is a tricky one isn’t it! X
If it was me I would want the clear margins and for them to go back in, but everything is your choice rachel60 you have to make your decisions for you treatments have changed since 2017. I know I pushed for the 15 and 5 boosters on rads after chemo but again I think rads has changed too so I can’t advise but definitely enquire about boosters Shi xx
Will do! And thanks
rachel60 Shi xx
