Sounds like it’s been quite a week for lots of us. Well done @donna_51, must be quite a strange feeling.
I’ve finished my first week and found it ok. Two more weeks to go. I also got my Tamoxifen today so start that tomorrow. I’m back in the office now and feel this is also helping with my fitness. Not quite so exhausted walking from the tram to the office now. Even managed to wander to a couple of shops after work yesterday! I also returned to ballet which was great and managed not to collapse in a heap!
Are there many of us left on chemo? If so, hope the end date is very close.xx
@donna_51 go you!!! Whoop whoop!
I was due my 3rd RT today, cancelled 45 mins before it was due…tacked on end so now finish 6th December…fingers crossed.
Still, meant i got to walk with my bestie and see 2 seals, amd have 2 glasses of wine tonight !
Thats what im grateful for @charlie22 …
And im seeing paddington 3 tomorrow!
Happy weekends x
@wjs well done you on returning to the office and ballet, great for some normalcy and fitness returning.
Im finding my exhaustion is still there, but still getting out for walks and im probably not pacing very well. Did 8k yesterday but wiped me… i dud try to start couch to 5k in the week but think that jogging is a step too far yet. I ended up barely able to move…
My joint aches are still there but think the algae is helping a bit and more gentle yoga and stretching.
How are everyones nails? Mine were ok-ish through chemo, a couple started lifting from nail bed on the paclitaxel…but im 6 weeks post that now and more are going over this week. Is that the tamoxifen? Anyone else having this issue?
Happy weekend all. So many messages to catch up!
We are all on rollercoasters and different ones at that …. It’s so upsetting to read some of the news …. We are all doing so well and to have something else thrown in knocks you for six - @pat i hope they get you a better plan so you have better clarity - meanwhile I hope you enjoyed the cinema! @rrey good to hear you got some better understanding and 28th looks like a big date for you and @charley and we will all be here for you.
@nicd my nails were the best they have ever been during chemo - 4 weeks after it finished they are terrible - I bought the Holland & Barrett hair skin and nails vitamins that they recommended on the LGFB so I’m hoping they will get stronger.
@donna_51 flipping amazing - so pleased for you well done! We are probably all emotional wrecks right now and will be for some time - baby steps… be kind …. Sending hugs of congratulations.
I should have been on a cruise now but got cancelled - but I finished work on Wednesday to take a couple of weeks relaxing - I’m sure my colleagues think she’s had enough time off already this year and it does make me feel a bit guilty! We celebrated the end of treatment on Thursday with lunch with friends which was just fab. We are going away to Devon for a few days and I think we will both collapse when we get there! We can’t wait! My husband has buried himself in diy during this journey - I think to keep his brain busy but you can see he needs timeout both physically and mentally.
THANK YOU to everyone for all the support - I feel lucky to be part of this as we embark on the next leg of our journey…… the letrozole is making my body do different things - just the 5 years on it so I need to get in a better routine with it.
@donna_51 yaaaayyy congratulations how are you feeling?!? Like @alig1961 said you have been a constant source of encouragement throughout for all of us, so thank you for that!! I do hope you will still keep checking in!!
Thanks @bettyb24 for sharing … its great to hear your healing well
@nicd@wjs I have done a walk everyday this week … first time in a long time, as well as going back to work this week … I am pooped today but I really want to loose a bit of weight and build those energy levels back up as well, so for me a 20-30 minute walk is just about doable … just means I’m asleep by 8.30pm we WILL get there
My nails are still going strong … I’m really hoping they continue however I am finding my facial hair is also coming back strong it’s only very white (like my regrowth on my head) and very fuzzy/ soft … anyone else have this?!?
I started taking evening primrose oil and wanted to start some other supplements but was advised by my surgeon to stop and wait now until after surgery! Which is a bit annoying!!
@collywobbles sorry to hear about your cruise but it looks like you’ve got some super things planned in place … enjoy!!
My daughters birthday today, but her dad is getting remarried so she is off being a bridesmaid… we celebrated yesterday with her tea of choice, fish & chips and homemade brownies
My partner is working today so me, my youngest and mum are going to the local farm and then for a carvery … then I’ll get cosy later when little ones in bed with some goodies to watch strictly in peace and tomorrow a nice big woodland walk and some comfort food (Yorkshire puddings and mash ) for when we get home planned … and I wonder why I can’t loose weight, I’m always eating but all very nice and wholesome … I may even have a glass of wine
Hi Charlie. The advice about facial hair was to remove using cream and then it may stop it coming back, that’s if you didn’t have it before chemo. If you did, then remove how you used to. Xx
@charlie22 that sounds like a really lovely weekend. We aren’t doing much but have had quite a busy week, and have another busy one coming up, so I’m happy with doing nothing. I was told my grandaughter spontaneously put the chips up her nose while hubby’s back was turned - not sure I believe that I didn’t ask if she ate them afterwards
My issues of the week are -
Aching literally all over. I feel as if I’ve done a 24 hour gym session and am stiff all over.
My hair has started to fall out more quickly again certainly no regrowth anywhere as other people have seen. My 3 little eyelashes on each lower lid are hanging on in there still though
So many posts to catch up on. Congratulations on finishing your radiotherapy @donna_51 I’m so thrilled for you to have reached that milestone!
I saw my surgeon last night, he says he can do a lumpectomy because of the clear scan and at the same time he could also give me a ‘lift’! Then as long as what he takes out is all clear under the microscope he’ll lift my good boob in a follow up op next year. I’ve never considered a boob job, and thought I’d be having a mastectomy, but figure I may as well ‘gain’ something from this sh!t show! I’ve got to have all my lymph nodes out too as they were infected-all scheduled for 5th December, which is about 10 days ahead of when I was previously told, so hopefully I’ll be on the mend in time for Xmas.
@pat I’m sorry to read you’ve additional worries-totally unfair, I really hope it’s nothing. I too have about 3 eyelashes clinging on, and despite using UK Lash serum for about 6 weeks I have no sign of any and keep hoping that one day I’ll just wake and my eyelashes will have reappeared overnight!
The photo of your granddaughter is funny, I love how kids get up to naughty things with their grandparents! My son had his first sleepover with my mum last night (aged 3). I was out and got a message from her at 8.30pm that read ‘is it true that he sleeps with this disco light on?’ My reply ‘No. it was in his bag as he wanted to show you it’ my mum then said ‘he insisted he sleeps with it on every night and made me put it on’
It fills a room with red/blue/green strobes…NOBODY would sleep with that on! She managed to sneak in and turn it off before she went to bed, but did make me laugh that he convinced her of that
Sounds like a lovely weekend @charlie22
We are off to some fireworks tonight at the local school and have my parents coming over so after we are going to cook dinner on our raclette grill. I’ve put a bottle of champagne in the fridge, and plan to have my first alcoholic drink since the end of May! Will raise my glass to you all
@ljlj enjoy your bubbles. I didn’t really miss it but must admit they slipped down a bit too easily last week!
Sounds like your son has grandma wrapped around his little finger - lovely they are clever! @pat your grand daughter made me laugh with her chips!
Good to hear lumpectomy rather than mastectomy- and a lift! It is funny how one is very pert and the other is closer to my tummy button good that they have offered it!
Thanks for the tip @alig1961 … Ive never really had facial hair … or enough to be bothered by it, but now in certain lights I look like I’ve got some right side burns going on
@pat that’s funny, I’m betting they did get eaten!! Your weekend sounds lovely and a well deserved rest! I am absolutely shattered now and counting the minutes for bed time!! my hair also has a had a spurt of falling out on my head again … very see through at the top hoping that’s it now and after surgergy will start seeing some improvement I have noticed a little regrowth on my brows … so tinted them this week and it’s made the world of difference. Eyelashes still very stubby but I have started the UK Lash serum this week so hoping I may have a bit of regrowth by Xmas and as for the aches and pains they still going strong, but I have found my legs haven’t been as bad this week, and I’m thinking that may be down to me walking more everyday?!
@ljlj how fantastic your getting a little uplift thrown in as well … might as well make the most of a crap situation I wish I was offered the same, my fun bags are definitely deflating as I’m getting older love it about your son … my 3 year old is exactly the same with his grandad … has him wrapped round his little finger also what a wonderful weekend … enjoy those bubbles
@pat … you know she ate them!!! How gorgeous even if it is !!!
@ljlj a lift … what a fab idea!! I’m going to meet a plastic surgeon early next year to get an idea of what to expect - apparently, because they’re not linked to cancer in any way they start offering all sorts!!! My friend ended up with a thigh shave on the side… argghhh… my boys said I may as well get my ‘arse sorted out too’!!! I’m 52 boys, my arse will never be sorted
@collywobbles glad you’re getting away even if it’s not a cruise - enjoy x
@charlie22 try not to think too much about losing weight - we’ve been through sooo much this year, let’s feed our bodies what they’re craving - carbs and cake and comfort!!
I had a ‘therapeutic’ day yesterday… braved going back to the little park which was the scene of dark ‘waiting for results’ time - just me and the dog so a big cry and as the counsellor advised ‘sitting with the feelings’ but much more fun, I had a beer and bonfire!! Burnt every letter, leaflet, book and some clothes and anything that even remotely related to cancer. You can tell by the smile that it felt good!!! T-shirt courtesy of my friend. Happy days
@donna_51 and @charlie22 I have my spreadsheets of chemo drugs/side effects etc that husband did for me. Perhaps I should put them on the fire one evening so I can watch them burn from the comfort of the sofa!!
Hi Donna that was me! I just popped back online after a few weeks away. Sorry everyone. I became quite ill during and after AC and headed into my cave. Everything associated with chemo and cancer made me feel sick and anxious. I have wished for that hotel many times.
Update: lumpectomy done and cancer for now has been removed. Radiotherapy next week (15 sessions) - dreading the faff and daily commute to hospital (where is that hotel suite when you need it).
Have started Letrozole and will start Abemaciclib after radiotherapy and zometa
Lovely catching up on everyone’s news and how you have got through the summer. We all said we were looking forward to Xmas as it would mean some of the treatments done and dusted. And we’re nearly there!
x
@jbb great news that your lumpectomy done… cancer HAS gone, repeat that mantra to yourself. My surgeon said ‘the monster has gone’ which resonated with me and I think of his words if I’m feeling dark about things!
So who is now on the 5-7 year medication? I’ve got over my big hurdles of chemo and radio but meeting with Dr next week to get prescription for Taxi stuff! Another mini hurdle to consider, sigh. I was mid-way through the menopause on hrt before so slightly apprehensive about going back into it all. What have peeps experienced so far?
