June 2025 chemo starters

@runnerjen @twinks77 @jenny4 the mouth thing drive me crazy as it was exactly that… my tongue felt too big and it was stinging like crazy. I also managed to chomp on it a few times so it got very sore around the edges.

I got prescribed Nystatin for oral thrush and it cleared up in about 3-4 days. If it’s painful use soluble paracetamol. I also found ice lollies gave relief.

For the dry mouth which I still get try to find a way to sleep with your mouth closed. I’ve lost so much sleep needing the fan on for the hot flushes then waking up with a completely dry mouth. You can get dry mouth spray over the counter too.

The aches have got better for me but still hit randomly. Again I thought this might last for ages but it’s not.

It feels good to get the first of the new one over with and starting to come out the other side. Only 2 more and chemo can get in the bin :muscle:

Totally with you on the sore mouth. It feels like sandpaper constantly! I also have the docetaxel aches, they seem to have subsided slightly today, 1 week after my chemo. Fingers crossed that’s the worst over with. 2 cycles to go!

I’m back in bed with the aches today, plus a headache. I didn’t get much sleep and the fatigue is worse than ever! Blimey this chemo is grim! I am however grateful for cooler weather with a nice breeze through the window. And the neighbourhood duck :duck: is out there quacking away again, glad he’s finding my chemo coma so amusing!

I’m also in bed with Dox aches. Between the pains and hot flushes I haven’t slept for more than an hour or two in days and am really over emotional. I called the nurses this morning but apparently it’s totally normal and they’re not concerned. Thank goodness the schools go back tomorrow so I can have a guilt-free day in bed!
I know it could be far worse but my goodness I’m looking forward to the end of chemo. While it really sucks that we’re all going through this I’m finding it so helpful to compare notes. Won’t it be a relief when this is behind us even though we might have lots of other treatment post-chemo…

Currently on the sofa with the doc aches and hardly got any sleep last night either. So ruddy painful feel like I’ve beaten with a cricket bat. I did manage a bath earlier which seems to have helped a bit. Now for an afternoon snooze

Sorry to hear lots of you are suffering with the docetaxel aches. My first round was not fun but number two has been so much better after being prescribed pain killers. I’m a completely different person!

The countdown to saying bye to chemo is on. We’ve got this! :muscle:t2:

Brox what painkillers did they give you? I just have paracetamol and ibuprofen. I have barely slept again with whole body aches - plus the indigestion is back again! I feel like I have been beaten up, now planning another day in bed. I think I prefer EC!

Hope everyone else is coming out of it or doing better on their current drug!

So sorry you are suffering. Sounds exactly like my first one & it was horrible.

I was given Gabapentin which I could top up with paracetamol, but there were other options if that didn’t work. They also gave me a plan on how to take it based when I was experiencing the most pain so I was always covered from day 1 to day 12.

Hope you get something sorted! I was on the verge of requesting to only do 3 instead of 4 docetaxel because of the 1st one but it’s been so much better.

Thanks! I got up early for breakfast so I could take ibuprofen on some food, had paracetamol as well and just got another hour or two of sleep, so I feel slightly better for that and less achy. What a ride this is!

Many thanks for sharing the info about Gabapentin @brox - I’ll ask my oncologist about this as I can’t face another couple of rounds of this pain.
After another rubbish night I do feel this achiness is lifting slightly. Hope everyone else is on the up too.

I am still in a holding pattern for my pacliataxel but I got to thinking. Is everyone having a Covid jab this autumn. I was still thinking that I’m invincible but after this abscess malarkey I am realising that maybe I’m not so much.

Yes, I was planning to ask my oncologist to ok flu & Covid jabs asap. Our immunity has been decimated so getting flu or Covid is the last thing we need. From what I’ve seen online the vaccines should be safe while we’re on chemo.
How is your recovery going @moomoo716? I’ve been thinking of you.

Good thinking about the flu and covid jabs, I’ll ask when I catch up with oncology on Friday.

I am delighted to report that I played 90 mins of padel tennis this morning with no aches or pains!! I can’t tell you how much I didnt think that would happen and how buzzing I am.

I hated EC but for 2 of the 3 rounds I had a real bounce-back moment where I went from feeling really shitty to feeling amazing. But on dox I’ve felt old and achey with random gastric aches. I didnt have the big zombie dip but I have felt generally a lot more tired. BUT my marker is that I get to play padel by day 12 and that’s still happened. My stamina was not great and I cant regulate my temperature but I didnt need to stop.

I’ll take that! Im out for dinner and a movie tonight too so I feel like I have my life back for the next 9 days.

I might ask for gabapentin too (we given that to our cats when they have nerve pain and they look totally stoned!)

I kept some of the nystatin rather than finishing it as my mouth got better but Im finding water tastes rank so Im hoping its not coming back. I need it for the next round as mouth pain was so sore.

Hang in there ladies… put the box sets on and binge/snooze till you feel better. Better days are coming… I promise xx

The wound is recovering but it is a very slow process and it is mentally draining. Fingers crossed for another 2 weeks.

Definitely finding my energy is more zapped on docetaxel but appreciate that could be the build of chemo.

Thanks for the reminder on the vaccines! I was told to get Covid, flu and pneumococcal before I started chemo but they didn’t have the flu vaccine for me. Totally forgot I needed to sort getting it when they become available.

Aches slightly better today but dox is so damn hard! I was so excited on those first couple of days that there wasn’t any sickness but clearly it was a steroid buzz. Last injection tonight so hopefully better days are coming. I’m not sure how I can handle 3 more cycles if it’s that bad every time, hopefully the oncologist will think of something when I next see him.

I’ve been prescribed lanzoprasol today for acid reflux which I will start tomorrow so I’m hoping that will make things better too. Before all this BC lark I barely took a paracetamol and now I’m like give me all the drugs! :grinning:

How’s everyone’s appetite? I’ve found mine has completely gone which is not like me at all.

Also nails …. My thumb nails ache :persevere:

My thumb nails ache too! So weird! The rest of the aches are easing today but I’m knackered still, so have been dozing all afternoon.

Ive done 6 rounds of chemo now (3 x EC/3 xPAC) 6 more to go so can say 1/2 way through. I feel more achy on the pac and each time i have it my mouth gets drier and every body hurts. Also, had to go see gynae and ive been asked to go for a hyperscope which will be in next couple of weeks, feel that i really cant do it while having chemo and wanted some advice if you think i am stupid to leave it till ive finished chemo wiich will be 4 weeks later. I have been told cysts on ovaries but they look beign, they just want to be sure as one is larger than 5cm. Too much going on just need a break from everything x

Oh I don’t blame you not wanting anything else done at the minute! There’s a limit to what we can take. What does your oncologist say? I would’ve thought they’d prefer to wait till after chemo to reduce the risk of infection but that’s just my thoughts.

I was coming on to say the same as twinks-I’d ask your oncologist’s advice. Sorry you’ve got this to worry about as well as everything else.
