June 2026 chemo starters

Hospital has let me down badly over the last seven days and appointments keep changing, but no one has been communicating with me  My treatment has now been pushed back to July, so I’ll move over to that thread…

Wishing all you June starters all the very best for your treatment and sending loads of positive vibes!! xx

Oh bless you, I’m a May starter but flit between May and June as such good advice from everyone on both feeds. Hope you can chill out if possible and try to relax - wishing you all the best when your treatment finally starts.

I had my 1st ec on Monday and felt great until today day 4 just exhausted and upset stomach slept most of the day so was wondering  if this was the steroid crash people have been talking about. Also really fancy something to eat and then when it’s in front of me yuck :face_vomiting:. Still it going to cool down for those of us in the south west so should be better. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

Hi @maxmo , not sure what regime you’re on but with docetaxel & carboplatin day after was fine, then it hits day 3.4,5 then back to some sort of normal again.. weakness, fatigue, tummy pain for me then terrible heartburn for a few days after that.. 2nd week was better, third even better ( exception of a blinking cold!) also ended up in acute assessment unit last night as temp was 37.6 which I’m so Sure was because it was soooo hot yesterday so now I’m On antibiotics and had to have IV drip in hospital even though I felt fine in myself.

Hope the next few days improve for you..

Sounds same def.. just wished I didn’t have it postponed!! As I have a wedding in August which gave me 4 weeks between cycles so I was in a good place to go..

ended up in hospital last night with a high temp!! Which I felt absolutely fine with but they are hot on getting you treated.. I was sent straight to a bed!! No messing seen straight away and bloods done, abx given and back home in 3 hours.. very impressed to be honest and very grateful as the hospital was like A sauna!

Did you find side effects worse with cycle number 2 or better?

I feel washed out for the first 4-5 days then picked up after that.. I wished I could shave my head but I can’t part with my hair yet!! I feel like there’s something crawling all the time on me but it’s hair falling out..

hopefully cardio will see me in the next weeK so I can carry on!!

Hope Tuesday goes well and the weathers not too brutal for you

Oh my god I’m near bath and you did it this week. You are a rockstar having it in this heat I’m so glad it went ok x

Hi @maxmo I’m on EC and that sounds about right.

Not too bad for the 1st few days then extreme lethargy, everything feels too much effort! Plus nausea and for me awful heartburn.

Have found a few foods that i can stomach - cereal, small jacket potatoes, apples and tend to eat a lot of them.

It does get better…towards the end of the 2nd wk i can eat most things.

Hang in there….you’re doing amazing!

Sorry to hear this…the waiting to start is so hard…hope it goes smoothly from here

Yes I’ve also had heartburn since the first treatment really on and off! Gaviscon did nothing so they prescribed me omeprazole so will see how that goes!

They also gave me gel clear and difflam for mouth sores and they help a lot just in case anyone else is suffering with those !

So glad they saw you straight away and you didn’t have to wait long! How do you feel now? Did they know why you had a temp?

Yes very annoying for you waiting for cardio as just delays so much more! I’ve also got to have a cardio appointment and a 48hour monitor because of the palpitations I get but they haven’t postponed treatment
Do you still get to go to the wedding?

I’ve found the side effects on the 2nd treatment more manageable but still lingers for me 5-6 days after and don’t really feel myself until late the second week!

Thanks for the tips today feel dizzy!!! @loopylea sorry you had to go through that! At least it’s cooler today. I find this forum so helpful xx

Thank you, are you having palpitations badly? Mine was a slow heart rate sitting at 41-44 for about 3 days but I already have dilated cardiomyopathy which is why they won’t give me anymore until cardio clear me.. they said as it’s adjuvant therapy it’s it worth continuing in case it’s damaging my heart.. as that would be a bigger problem for me at the moment than the cancer as they’ve taken that away.. but I’m sure my cardio will let me continue..

I was admitted purely because my temp was 37.6 anything above 37.5 we have to report to the 24hr helpline and because I’ve had. A cold they wanted my bloods done and antibiotics started for precaution.. I felt absolutely fine and told every nurse who would listen but they still treated me.. although since starting the abx my temps been really good, so maybe something was brewing?? You never know.

How are you feeling today?

Feeling much better today!!! How are you feeling? I just keep thinking one down 3 EC to go! Not sure how many I am having of docetaxel as I was originally told four rounds of each but when I went for chemo Monday they said I was down for 12 rounds of docetaxel!!! Seeing oncology Friday so will find out then. How many rounds is everyone else having x

Ah I’m glad you’re feeling much better.. I’m good thanks today, been having a potter in the garden centre and then in the garden with my new purchases..

I’m having 6 rounds of docetaxel and carboplatin then I to radiotherapy and letrozole and cdk4/6 inhibitor.. not looking forward to that part!!

Absolutely gutted I’m not having 2nd cycle on Tuesday now! Really wanted to be done for Christmas and well again!!

So much nicer now the weathers slightly cooler too!!

I was due to have my third infusion of EC yesterday afternoon, but they called me in early to repeat the blood test and although the level had improved, it still wasn’t good enough to go ahead with treatment

Not sure of the details of what was wrong with the bloods, but now I have to wait two weeks to continue with the original chemo schedule. Then they’ll tag an extra session on at the end - the ever-moving finish line!!

Now I feel like I’m in limbo for 2 weeks - not poorly, but still vulnerable and not able to plan anything much. I know in the grand scheme of things two weeks will be nothing in the end, but I just want to get on with this essential but shitty process!!

Sorry to hear that @jillylovesgin .

Even with how rank chemo is, the desire to just get it done is always higher isn’t it. I’m not great at ā€˜going with the flow’ and I like to have everything planned out- cancer treatment just doesn’t respect time management does it. I honestly think I cope better with the shits than I do with the inability to plan

I hope the weather is better and you can maybe meet up with some folks last minute outside or do something nice that breaks the time up waiting.

Hope the bloodwork’s looking better for next time xx

I completely get that!!every delay is a delay to finishing!! I’m not even sure what’s happening with cycle number 2!!

I’m going to discuss perhaps starting weekly paclitaxel instead! Probably have to have 15 weeks of that one! Seeing my lovely oncologist tomorrow. I know the feeling about socialising.. feel like I’ve turned into a hermit and missing things I usually love to do!! Hubby is shopping and taking child after school activities on. Bless him he’s a trooper but good for him to see how much Mummys usually do weekly!!

I told my daughter I would be finished by October and it slipped out December yesterday! Seems she’s holding me to October ( I had forgotten to mention the radiotherapy bit to her, but she’s adamant I’m finishing in october!! ) she’s only 9!

@jillylovesgin lets hope for a relatively normalish Christmas!! Sending hugs! :hugs:

Ladies can I ask about your scalps? Im 4 weeks since starting Docetaxel and carbo (so one week after my second infusion) and shedding a lot. My scalp is very very itchy with crusts and little black spots according to my partner. Does anyone else have this? Debating shaving it off (I had gone from long hair to pixie already) but I’m worried the nurses might not want me to cold cap if I’ve already clipped, it takes up so much more time and they are already thinking of changing my Phesgo subcut injections to different IV infusions too.

For those that did shave their hair can I ask a stupid question- how did you do it? There’s a strimmer attachment on my epilator but I’m thinking that’s probably I’ll-advised :joy:

@eils85…….just popping over from the May Starters thread to respond to your question about shaving your head….my husband did mine with his hair clippers, which are Wahl ones, very very reliable and safe. He’ s had his pair for decades, absolutely bombproof and easily obtained, loads of different models on Amazon and other shopping sites, no need to buy the dearest ones. Maybe you know someone you can borrow from? I’ d advise getting someone to buzz cut it for you, though, rather than trying it yourself! Unless you’ re a lot braver than me! Best of luck. It’ s a tough call, but you’ ll feel better once it’s done!

Maybe get the itchy scalp and scabby ā€˜ bits’ checked over first, though before attacking it with clippers?

I had the exact same problem.. I cut to pixie and then had loads falling out everywhere! Plus it hurt!! It was so frustrating and I hated how thin and patchy it was getting so I got my hubby to shave it with his clippers on a number 2 and I felt immediate relief!! I also prefer it to the pixie cut!! My 9 yr old daughter cried the whole time and a while afterwards but now loves it!! I felt quite liberated to be fair and also feel younger if that makes sense than I fed with thinning hair! I hate headwear so it’s either bald or wigs for me !! Amazing how my wig feels too without any hair underneath.. so much more comfortable.. This is me with my shaved head and my wig!! Have you had your NHS one yet??
