I’m feeling so pathetic!! Struggling to eat much and have no energy at all..my 9 yr old daughters really struggling to come anywhere near me as she’s scared of making me poorly and it’s really hurting me inside! I’m really trying but can’t seem to get my energy back.. sofa bound for the last 2 days .. just want to feel normal again. Picking on bits of chicken that don’t taste right and drinking water, water, water.. please tell me it gets better
Monday infusion of docetaxel and carboplatin.. thought I was stronger than this!! ![]()
@loopylea, the mix of carboplatin plus taxel hits hard. It tends to cause unbelievable tiredness from day 3/4 to days 8/9 with day 5 being a bit of a sod. Food and drink can also taste absolutely blargh. It came as a shock to me the first time.
You are not being pathetic, just following what most on that mix get. If however you are concerned call the hospital 24/7 number for advice. Hope next week is better for you.
You’re definitely not being pathetic!! I think it just hits at different times! It defo has for me, when I think I’m having a good day the next I only have to walk a little and I’m done and aching. I’m on EC and I feel like I have a side effect a day! And now trying to learn how to live with them and what actually helps ![]()
Give yourself some time and rest if you can, I also just eat bits of fruit to get me through sometimes. I am also sad when it comes to the kids as I want nothing more than to go back to how it was and not say - I’m tired or maybe tomorrow …![]()
Sending hugs (from my sofa where I’ve hardly moved from all day so solidarity with the lethargy). I’ve discovered that egg fried rice is a total winner for dinner, easy to digest, somewhat balanced and soft for sore mouths.
How are you feeling today @loopylea ?
Hi @eils85 thanks for asking.. feel woozy still when moving too quickly but managing to eat a bit more today.. still going to have a chill day and hopefully it will start to lift tomorrow..
How are you doing? X
Better today, my period came yesterday and it has been distinctly unwelcome admist the diarrhoea and mouth stuff but given it’s the last one I might ever have hard to be too annoyed! I’ve managed to work from home this morning and get showered and dressed etc which always helps doesn’t it. Will try get out a wee walk later as that seems to be thing one consistent bit of advice.
Hope you’ve got some good tv on the go today. I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve been inundated with colouring books so might give one of them a punt later!
How did you get on with your GP? Hopefully you’re all sorted. ![]()

Aww thanks for asking
Well the oncologist wouldn’t help with the anxiety because she said she wouldn’t know what to prescribe so I’ve called doctor today and waiting for them to call back! So will let you know ![]()
Oh no last thing you need a period!
just all comes at once aye!![]()
You made me laugh with the colouring books as I think I’ve had about 8 been brought for me so far ![]()
will also give them a go as I actually love colouring ![]()
Oh gosh! Mine came on Monday when I went for infusion and that alone makes you feel like pants doesn’t it?! Hopefully no more to come now.!
Had a lovely peacful bubble bath that was so needed this morning albeit with my arm hanging out with my picc line in! So want to just have a big deep bath!! Waited ages after mastectomy now got picc in.. think I may spend the whole of December in bubbles!! ![]()
Ladies I’ve just discovered gelclair sachets! Ordered from Amazon and weren’t cheap but my god I’ve just rinsed my mouth with some and it’s the happiest it’s felt in days. Just in case anyone else having trouble with mucositis. Hoping they will prescribe it for me if I ask.
Has anyone had a delayed infusion site sensitivity reaction? My hand started to become red and swollen/itchy yesterday.
I phoned the helpline and then had to go into the day unit where they gave me steroid cream. It’s worse today so now have an appointment with out of hours GP at 11.30pm.
This is all so hard going!
Sorry @round21 i don’t know anything about delayed skin reactions. Hope it’s not too uncomfortable and the GP is helpful. Did the nurses today say if antihistamines would help? If you don’t have any piriton at home you could try get some at a late night pharmacy before you see the GP and then check with them if it’s ok to take at your appointment? Hope you get on ok xx
Oh no do you think if it’s worse the steroid cream aggravated it?
Hopefully GP will sort you out!!! ![]()
How did you get on? Xx
I got antibiotics and it’s definitely less angry today ![]()

@round21 , when you are on chemo delayed skin reactions can and do happen. IF the skin becomes damaged from scratching or splitting in anyway Ìt can also get infected by the normal bacteria that live on all our skins.
I had a delayed skin reaction that set off the eczema flare from hell that was everywhere but on my palms and soles of my feet. IF you have any form of skin reaction try and take photos to show your oncologist as there is often something they can do to reduce the possibility of it happening to that level again. remember they have seen such before and have more knowledge on how best to manage such for you so you can get to the end of chemo. SInce mine added in daily antihistimines, a longer course of predisalone steroids and extra soap replacements and emoillents my skin has behaved. I still get a nab pacitaxel face rash which looks ghastly but does not itch is not excema and goes down after five days.
Got my 2nd EC on Tuesday - feeling nervous! First one didn’t go great so they tweaked the medication I come home with and she said it’s trial and error as to what side effects and what helps
the good days I’m having I’m trying to enjoy and not think about the next one but I got bloods tomorrow and so now it’s so close ![]()
