'June Jewels' - Precious and shining through :)

Evening Jewels,

What a lot to catch up on - sorry I will miss lots of people out but there has been so much going on…

Welcome to Flippantfox. I’m having my 2nd cycle of AC on Wednesday so we’re only a day apart. Good luck next time and make sure you tell them you were sick last time.

NicJ - Emend - fingers crossed…

Chelle - poor you! Take care of yourself and enjoy the party in that big room x

Emma - love your hair, you look great.

Vicki - well done to your veins!! Hope you find it comfortable - if not, don’t despair. After 3 weeks mine is just settling down and feeling relatively comfortable at last.

Cress - have a great time. Don’t feel guilty, we all wish we could go!

Had a good weekend but very tired now - shouldn’t be on day 20 but sleeping is still a problem. Went to work again as I still don’t want to be at home with just my thoughts for company so no chance of a mid morning nap . Quick trip to the hospital before work for pre-chemo bloods, but they couldn’t get any blood from my picc line. Drugs can go in but they said it must be in the wrong position in my chect to be in the blood flow. So much for ease of access…

Sounds a bit weird but almost can’t wait for next cycle on Wednesday. I feel like the first lot must be wearing off and I really want it to keep working on me and my lump…

Hair is shedding quite a bit now. Went to the park with the kids at the weekend and it was so windy I felt I had to put a cap on in case it blew off! Got the number from a friend of a mobile hairdresser to come round and shave it, but my husband has said he’ll do it - I was touched as I agree Fiona that this must be hard for them. Have warned him that by the time this is over I’ll be bald, scarred and menopausal but he hasn’t run yet .

Like the name LACE for our trip. It’ll take me a bit longer to finish than many of you as I still have to have surgery after chemo, then rads - might be nearly this time next year.

Sleep well everyone xx

Maxie is that your wiggy? If so it looks fabbo xx glam puss

Well OH didn’t bring me any McDonalds (s*d) so was proper sulking, and he said “take the C off chips!” cheeky so in so! but then he pulled out a bar of Green & Blacks dark choc so I didn’t have to strangle him after all.

ONC has just been in to see me and said they’ll prob let me out tomorrow if I behave and drink lots of fluids. They are monitoring all fluids in and out so am having to unplug my drip - walk to the bathroom and then pee in a potty - my dignity has left the building!

Thanks for all the well wishes and make sure you all look yourselves, hospital beds are no fun :frowning:

Hi I would love to join the June group please! I start tomorrow, absolutely terrified but once the first one is over I am sure it will get easier.
I am having 4 x TC and can find no one elses experience of that drug combination so anyone out there that has some I would love to hear from you.
Good luck everyone!
xx

Hi pointy - a very warm welcome from the Jewels xx best of luck for tomorrow - trust me it will be nowhere near as bad as your head will be telling you if will be! This group is full of fantastic ladies who will be there to virtually hold your hand the whole way. I’ll add your dates to our cocktail list. Can’t help on the drug combo I’m afraid as I’m having EC x

Weird instead of a Maxie profile pic I can see one of me on a Segway!

ok so i started on all the antI sick meds yesterday to prep for today. then today before I was infused I told the onc nurse all my symptoms and a lot of them will have been caused by the anti sick, so she gave me some Emend before we started and thn gave me the pills to take home for now and next time to see how we get on.
So far a bit nauseous and some retching but nothing like last time fingers crossed. But tummy very bloated back to constipation ? Back to the prunes and Movicol.
hi pointy good luck for tomorrow.

Nicj xx

Maxie, flippantfox & pointy - be loud and proud and the bar tomorrow - go show em what us Jewels are made of x

Hi Pointy I’m on TC, with Herceptin. Some side effects but I’ve found all manageable and minor.
Just learnt the hard way that the temperature taken from your armpit is half a degree lower than your normal temp or if taken under tongue. Men and reading instructions…

Hi June Jewels, tried to post a reply earlier but appear to have ‘lost it’ so apologies if it appears twice! I start chemo tomorrow 4 x TC, am just slightly scared silly but am sure once the first one is over it will get easier. Its the unknown that terrifies me. I had my CT scan today and have completley got my head in the sand about receiving the results and hoping they will forget to give them to me!! lol I have had a dodgly right foot for about 6 months now and obviously I am now convinced it is all to do with the BC! Logic tells me it is probably age or a stress fracture!
Ah well, here goes and the sooner I get started the sooner I get finished. I think the hair loss thing scares me more than anything but have purchased two wigs in preparation and booked myself on the LGFB course in a weeks time in Guildford.
Good luck everyone, look forward to all the updates.
Debbie x

Hi Pointy
I am on TC for 6 cycles also 18 cycles of Herceptin. Also 7 days of Nimvestin injection in stomach.
I have had 2 cycles. 3rd due on July 4th

My SE’s have been Red itchy face for 3 days after chemo for which I take antihistamines, Acid Reflux which last about 8 days take Omeprazole and Gaviscon, Worst tiredness and not feeling like me days are day 4 & 5. Also go to the loo quite a lot until stomach injections are finished. Also have an appetite like a horse and seem to be needing a lot of salt, neither of which is usually me. Not forgetting chemo brain, concentration and memory gone to pot. Eveyone has their own particular combo of SE’s soyou could well be completely different. My hair has just about lasted until today, day 11 of 2nd cycle but I think it will have to go tomorrow as I have noticed 2 bald spots.

Hope that helps.

Chelle - Have a comfy night and hope they let you out tomorrow. (What are the chances of you behaving though ).

Cress - Have a fab time you lucky girl.

Maxie - Your hair looks like it grew on you, great.

Joan - Always great to hear from you. My OH bought some clippers on Saturday to take the pressure off as I was intending to go to the hairdressers… I know he will hate doing it so I am really appreciative to.

Maxie, pointy and flippantfox, have a good day tomorrow, hope to here from you all soon

Have a peaceful night precious ones.

Marion

Hi LinsLleisio
Clearly my first post did appear…lol!
I am expecting some side effects and if I am lucky enough to have manageable ones then I can cope! How do you feel on the few days after treatment, is it like a hefty dose of flu? or worse?
x
thanks Marion, lets see what tomorrow and the next few days bring me
x

hi lovely ladies…

Just been cutting up old socks to use as PICC line covers lol, if its going to be on show then i may as well be colourful!!.

Maxie wow what a stunner!!. I only had my long hair cut 3 weeks ago but find it hard to remeber what i looked like, hoping the short bob will stay intact but my wigs very similar so will probably wear it on the greasy days…

Joan, your second, my first on wednesday, so will try to be calm and sophisticated instead of jumping up and down shouting “me next me next” lol. Just feels so wrong to be putting something in me thats going to make me feel less well than i am now. The ladies having chemo when i was in today all seemd chirpy, i just wish i could meet someone there nearer my own age. Seems theres not many ladies in their 40’s locally…which makes it even more fabulous that i have friends on here.

Well good luck tomorrow Maxie and the 2 newbies (fox & pointy). Hope everyone whos not been on for a while is managing ok.

Fingers crossed Nicj youll be better this time too. And Cress, you have to get a pic punting along with a cornetto lol…enjoy your time away.

Take care chelle enjoy the chocolate, would have to be caburys for me though, im such a philistine!!

Ok well off to chill for a bit then hopefully a good nights sleep as i doubt i’ll sleep tomorrow…
xxxxxxxx

Maxie your experience sounds a lot like mine, first ever mammogram, aged 51, call back, straight away core biopsy and told ‘its serious’ What the hell does that mean?? Then appt with Consultant two weeks later, lumpectomy and SN done mid may, then told 2 out of 22 nodes affected so back in a week later for removal. Never thought I would be in the chemo arena as original prognosis was lumpectomy, radio and tamoxifen.
Anyway, chemo starts tomorrow 4 x TC , then radio and then tamoxifen, I to am doing a you and alternating between, bring it on and running away. Frankly scared witless but it will be ok after the first one!
At least we have this to give us support and virtual hugs.
Good luck
Debbie xx

welcome pointy to the jewels nothing like becoming a member of the most unsought after club, lol but its a great place to be for the humour the rants and knowing someone is actually with you ,i had my first today and definatley not as scarey as i imagined but apparentley i went straight on the shorts lol lager makes me gassy anyway.i am on EC so dont know anything about yours, strange really i was under the impression you get breast cancer but then you find out theres so many different types and treatments but thats what makes us jewels we are unique!!!
ChelleB do you never rest lol and sorry but green & blacks win hands down think i would of killed him if got macci D instead,I am trying to eat light had a couple of pieces of toast with lemon curd on just thought least in least out lol drank about 2L of lemon juice and live on black coffee so system flushed red wee gone.
The unit I was on was really nice only 3 chairs 2 nurses for us big screen tv (thank god my appt wasnt jeremy kyle hour) ending up watching house in country and putting the world to rights with the lady next to me fella at the end had a few cringe moments I think but joined in lol.Dignity whats dignity mine left town couple of months ago.
Good luck to everyone hope everyone has a good night and either a good laugh or a good cry both make me feel better.
Still hoping for small SE

Ladies, thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome. Good luck to everyone and ChellB15 you can be sure that i will be loud and will try very hard to be proud! lol
Going to try and sleep tonight if the steroids allow!

Well night night Sparklies, hope to get some sleep before the fun begins tomorrow!

xx

Cress - lucky you, course you’re forgiven, just a teensy bit jealous. Buy me a cocktail when we’re at the bar together on Thursday?

NicJ - hurrah for the Emend, hope it does the trick.

Chelle - behave now, so you can get home tomorrow. Green & Blacks, yum, is it the butterscotch one?

Emma - hair looks great

Maxie - wiggy shopping went well, great. All the very best for tomorrow.

Well just got woken up to have next course of antibiotics so am having a brew as I’m now wide awake :frowning:
the staff are so lovely but I’m like grumpy bear as I want my own bed! What did I tell you all … Anti-bac’d my house within an inch of its life and I ended up with an infection! S*ds law!

Ok Michelle stop being a gloomy goose! (Now where did I hide the chocolate…)

Fiona - its the ginger one so I see it as medicine for sickness rather than a million calories

pleasant dreams twinkly ones xx

Night jewels. Xx
