Just been diagnosed

hi I’ve just in the last two days been diagnosed with breast cancer which has spread I’m 35 and very angry im finding it difficult to process I’ve only just got married I’ve got two children 10 and 12 and can’t even find the words to speak to them they have seen me crying and I just can’t turn there world upside down how do I tell them ? what do I do first who do I tell ?

Hi,one step at a time is the only way to deal with this otherwise it is just too overwhelming.Your children don’t need to know today or even next week, you will find a way to talk to them(or other family members will) when you have had some time to get your head around this yourself and have a plan of action about what happens next and what treatments you are going to have. When you say your cancer has spread are you talking about to your lymph nodes or elsewhere ?Even if your cancer has spread there is a good chance of managing the condition for years and advances being made all the time in respect of treatments .There are ladies talking in the secondary cancer section of the forum who will be able to offer you good advice and support if that is the case.Best wishes.Jill.

Hi Crw2008 sorry you are joining us saying that this is such a good forum and has helped me so much!! I have just had my op and I am now waiting for results and what’s next. I have a six year old and I must admit I was wondering what to tell him, I have told him only what I need to right now and I haven’t filled his head with lots of information. Do it in your own time like Jill and Jobey have said there is no rush. Always around if you need an ear!! Xx
