Hello there. I’m Dawn. I went for my routine mammogram 5 and a half weeks ago. I was called back 2 and a half weeks later for a second assessment, where I had another scan, ultrasound and biopsy. Since then I have had two appointments with my consultant and my treatment plan is now taking shape. I have a date pencilled in for my surgery, though it may be sooner. I am having a breast reduction alongside my lumpectomy. I feel like I’m in a whirlwind…everything is happening very quickly. Feeling a bit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for me.
Hi @dawn67 - A big warm welcome to the Forum.
I’m so sorry for your diagnosis, Dawn. When is your date for your surgery??
Yeh, of course you’re understandably feeling “nervous”. The “waiting” is often one of the worse parts.
You don’t say if you’re on your own with this, or have partner, kids? Plenty of family and friends around you? Try and keep your mind occupied AWAY from stressing about it, with ANY thing “up” and distracting. Arrange good fun cheerful company as often as you can, watch lots of daft comedy films/programmes, do crosswords/puzzles, take up jigsaws, go to the gym more often, etc., etc.
This is a great place for advice, and support with anything you’re struggling with, so just ask away with any questions you may have.
Have you had a look at the different Forum areas? Again, just ask if you need any help with navigating around it. If you don’t find an existing thread that answers any question you may have, then set up your own one in the relevant area.
I soo hope ALL goes well for you. Please DO keep us informed with how you’re doing, will yer.
Lots of love to you, Delly XX
@dawn67 Sorry that you find yourself here. It’s can be overwhelming at begin with (and if honest at some stages throughout treatment). One of the best bits of advice I had was to just take it one day at a time. The bigger plan can seem so overwhelming when you are first diagnosed. I hope you get your surgery soon. It’s feels like you’ve ticked one of the treatment boxes once you get that done, and whilst I will admit I was scared I also felt that I was doing something practical and purposeful to get rid of the cancer when I had my surgery.
As @delly says the forum is a great place to get information and there is always the telephone number at the top of the page if you want to speak to one of the BCN.
Take care. X
