Hi, I’m David, and yes male in my mid 70’s. For about three months I’ve noticed a slightly painful to touch swelling, non visible under one on my nipples - no other symptoms, today I was seen at my local general practice and was put on the 2 week cancer referral pathway - so early days. I think I know what tests are before me as my wife has in the past had tests which resulted in lumpectomies, thankfully they were precancerous lumps and all was OK. I suppose it might be a bit strange for me in the waiting room but I’m not unduly concerned about that and not embarrassed. I’ve delayed getting checked out as over recent months I’ve had quite a few health issues for Iron Deficiency Anemia, blood loss, transfusions, colonoscopy, gastroscopy and eventually Argon Plasma Coagulation, a case of me not being able to juggle more than one ball in the air at a time I guess. Now I am yet to find out what the lump is and deal with it - whatever.
Welcome David , totally understand the juggling of balls as I have multiple health conditions too , sometimes just one thing extra is just too overwhelming isn’t it .As you probably already know most breast changes are not cancer but that doesn’t stop the anxiety does it?
There is a men section of the forum if you’d like to connect with other men but you are very welcome to chat wherever you like , we totally understand the anxiety - the waiting is hideous isn’t it ? Best wishes Jill x
Thanks Jill, overwhelming is perhaps a good word, but I’m just trying to take things in their stride, I’m more mentally (and physically) tired than anxious as last September they thought I’d Bone Marrow Cancer, but as mentioned that turned out to be iron deficiency anemia, if I worried it wouldn’t help merely add to the problem. Thanks for pointing me to the men’s section but there’s no hiding the fact that men do get breast cancer, so being open about it, for me, is helpful.
Good morning @David117, I hope you find the forum useful.
This is the link to the board Jill mentioned: forum.breastcancernow.org/t5/Breast-cancer-in-men/bd-p/breast-cancer-in-men
We’re here if you need to talk anything through.

Hi @David117 I have a good friend who had surgery for BC around 11 years ago and who took Tamoxifen for 10 years afterwards, without any trouble. I know he belongs to a private Facebook group for male BC which is very supportive. They also have monthly Zoom calls that any member can join for discussions and sharing experiences.
IF you fall in to the category, which obviously you may well not, AND it is your kind of thing - and I realise it may not be - I can pass on the name of the group to you when the time comes.
I wish you the best of luck with the tests.
Appreciated, thanks.
