Hi I have just come across this site and wanted some advice. I found a long bean type swelling in my left boob. I was sent to the hospital by my GP on Tuesday last week for a mammogram then went back on Friday. They did another one they found a round small lump in my right boob it was my left i was worried about now i am worried about the 2 of them. The consultant said he thinks the one in my right maybe a cyst and is not concerned about the one in the left. I don’t know whats going on but the left is lumpy and its never been there before he just said it was a ridge ! whats a ridge ! I am bothered hes playing it safe. The Mammogram did not show the right lump from the sides only the top so now I have to go foe ultra sound. There was a form and on it it said the 2 week rule applies to me whats all that about. I am a bit concerned that i can feel the lump in my left not the right yet there is something now in my right one as well. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and what else to expect. I have never had anything like this before there is no family history and i am 35 fair healthy. I am really worried they may find other things in the ultra sound. When would i get the results of the ultrasound no one seemed to be able to tell me much.
Hi Carole,
I’m sorry you find yourself here on this site, but you join a lot of women who have been down your road in front of you - though there are certainly a lot more who were pronounced clear or benign after further investigation, and never came here at all. This pre-diagnosis stage is probably the worst, but there is not much any of us can say to ease it for you; it’s something you just have to wait out, while distracting yourself however you can.
Make a list of everything you want to ask and don’t be deflected next time you see someone. You want answers and it’s your right. They should be able to give you their informed opinion about the results of the ultra-sound on the spot - though these are by no means always accurate. If they have further doubts you will probably be given a needle biopsy, which is quick, simple and not particulary painful. Don’t be frightened of the future: you’ll deal with it whatever it is and the worst outcome is not the most statistically likely - if that’s any comfort.

I know just how you are feeling. I have had two call backs and they have both been nothing. The second time the consultant told me on the phone he didn’t think it was anything to worry about and although logic told me he would not have even thought of having that conversation with me I was still absolutely frantic, didn’t eat and didn’t sleep. As I say it turned out to be nothing. The first time it was a cyst which later ruptered and caused me even more anguish and I know that next time I have a mammo I will panic even before I have heard the all clear, or otherwise. Don’t worry it is probably nothing but saying that will not stop you worrying I know. I just wanted to let you know that I know exactly how you are feeling and it’s HELL.
Thanks all its a worrying time indeed i hope its nothing and I will ask more when i go back. Thanks for the help
i note my boob itches at times it feels like a feather tickling it theres no rash or anything could this be linked ?
