I’m sure you’re feeling a lot of shock just now @smt, and that’s definitely normal when you’re hear something you weren’t expecting. Try not to let your mind wonder too much, and don’t be afraid to lean on and rely on those you have around you to get you through the wait for your appointment. It might help in the meantime to speak to one of our nurses, who you can reach on 0808 800 6000.

We’re sending all the love and best wishes for Thursday. We’re here if you need us

Yeah. So sorry. Been there, done that. Good news is the higher oncotype score definitely means that it is very likely chemo will work for you. In fact it can bring your recurrence percentage down as many as 15 points which is huge. Bad news of course is that it’s chemo and chemo is a bitch. I had four sessions three weeks apart due to an intermediate score and being under 50. Not fun and by the end I was feeling pretty darned bad but I tolerated most of the sessions quite fine. Continued to work and keep house as usual along with two kids still at home. The drugs they have to manage symptoms now are great.

Thanks for replying. Im 52 and still peri menopausal so I have to have injections to shut down the ovaries and get me in to full blown menopause too. Not quite sure how it all goes and when it all starts will know more on Thursday. Was thinking of the cold cap as I know two people it worked for but im not sure how that works either

Hi I am sorry you are still in so much Pain. I cant really advise you on this as I had one lymph node taken but I did do the exercises all the time. I had two surgeries before they got clear margins and my arm was still sore so that was four weeks apart. I am 6 weeks from the first surgery now and removal of the lymph node and my arm feels back to normal. The waiting for your oncotype is the worst. Have you had the results of your lymph node removal ? Mine was positive for cancer so I think that might be why it came back at 29. My oncologist told me yesterday that the scale for post menopausal women was 1-25 no chemo and 26 and up chemo, however the fact that I am pre meonpausal means the scale is different and it is 1-15 no chemo 16 plus is chemo and I was 29 so no matter what my menopause status I need chemo. I am also having injections into the ovaries to shut them down to stop producing the eostrogen and I believe there is a study in America to prove these injections are as good as the chemo so maybe if this happened in 5 years time I wouldnt need the chemo, who knows. Daunting but the way I see it, survival mode on. Good luck with your results x

16 to 20 for those under the age of 50 is sometimes chemo. It’s not normally recommended there unless there is spread or some other factor that makes the doctors think you’re recurrence rate is higher than what the oncotype score is saying. Now 21 to 25 for that group? Most always chemo regardless.

Hello Nyla
Wishing you all the best with your results.
You sound just like me,I was in a lot of pain too i had the lumpectomy and 7 lymph nodes removed…5 week’s later i had to go back because the margin wasn’t clear i am now waiting on the results for that and the oncotype to come back
I am sorry if I’m not making much sense i am new here

Hi
Hope your feeling better now. I thought id never feel better as i was in so much pain and it was so uncomfortable with the seroma. Im at feeling better now especially as my result from the gene test was 14 so no chemotherapy. I go on the 15th to start my radiotherapy, so not long to wait.
Stay positive. X
