K cup and mammoplasty

Hello everyone :hugs: , I am having a therapeutic mammoplasty as I have a large area of multiple lesions (at least 8) in my left breast. It’s multifocal grade 1 IDC, ER/PR +ve, HER2 -ve.

I might have to have a mastectomy after if the margins aren’t clear..

Is anyone else large breasted and had a mammoplasty? They will do both breasts at the same time.

I don’t know what to expect afterwards and what the healing is like.

I have surgery 8th October.

I will stay with friends for a few days after the surgery, but then after I am on my own with my little dog..

Hi @sausagedog

I had a bilateral mammoplasty in May. I had J cups prior to surgery and while I’m not 100% on what size I am now, it’s around a D cup I think.

The surgery wasn’t too painful and pain meds managed it. Try to set up your home now for not being able to lift your arms above shoulder height or lift anything heavy for a while. Fill the freezer with easy cook food. Also if you have neighbours or friends that can walk your dog for you at times or bring you easy food that is amazing. I found the tiredness was more than I’d anticipated. I did find bras rubbed on incisions so I wore a silky vest under it. A silky scarf would do the trick.

If I’m honest my boobs look pretty good, especially the non badly behaved one , scars are starting to silver and I’m wondering why I didn’t have a reduction years ago.

Good luck!

Hi @binky1

Thanks for replying! That’s good to know it’s not that bad a pain after and about the bras with a silky vest or scarf help. I’ve looked on M&S and they do a silky cami which might do the job.

I have ME/CFS so I dread the extra layer of tiredness that might come with it.

Sorry you had to go through this too. I’m glad your boobs look good!

Did you have radiotherapy or chemo afterwards? I’m told I will have 5 days of radiotherapy :frowning_face_with_open_mouth: .

I can try to set up my room so I don’t have to lift my arms.. how long were you unable to do that for?

Thank you! :pink_heart:

I had bilateral surgery 4 years ago . As my surgeon said he had a lot to work with !! I have about a b/c cup . I no longer have to wear underwires bras - I am comfortable and balanced . I had some healing delays but that was mainly due to where the lumpmwas so close to my nipple . The suture lines did take a while to heal fully but I must say I was surprised that pain was manageable . I had to wear a quite firm supportive bra for 6 weeks that they put on me during surgery .

@evmel Lol I have a lot of boob to work with too!

I’m glad you feel comfortable and balanced now, and that the pain wasn’t so bad. That gives me hope.

I’m choosing to lose my nipples, as it just adds to more healing, and I can always have some tattoo’d nipples done.

Did you find it strange going from being big to being smaller?

Thank you! :pink_heart:

I did find it strange but also it was the positive out of everything that was happening . Sounds trivial given the situation . I had a massive bra clear out . Bought some comfy crop top bras . The best thing is in the summer not having to worry about a bra at all . I sometimes miss my old boobs but don’t miss their weight .

Hope your procedure goes smoothly . The Scars soon fade .

@evmel I can’t imagine not needing a bra after being so big! It must be freeing! I won’t miss the weight of mine either but it will be strange I think..

Thanks :pink_heart:

Thank you for your comment, I have found this very reassuring as about to go through this same procedure over the next few weeks.

@sausagedog glad I could help. My sentinel node biopsy picked up a couple of rogue lymph nodes, so I have had chemo and will have a node clearance surgery and radiotherapy. I just about at my last chemo session - it’s been doable but Im glad Im almost there. My surgeon told me they removed 1.2kg from my boobs, what still surprises me is that my nipples no longer point south  . You will be told not to do too much for six to eight weeks and definitely not lift anything heavy or do heavy housework (was not sad about this), but keep up with the exercises they give you and you will find your mobility comes back quickly. I think I was able to drive after about four weeks - you have to be able to do an emergency stop.

@evmel yes to the big bra clear out and also the crop bras. Im also able to wear a button up shirt for the first time without it gaping.

@nannywenz glad to be reassuring. It was definitely not as bad or as painful as I thought it was going to be. But it does take time to get your energy back. Hope your surgery goes smoothly.

@binky1 Oh gosh sorry you had to have chemo, and then node clearance and radiotherapy. I hope you are doing as well as you can be.

1.2 kg is a lot of boob to remove! 6-8 weeks sounds like a long time not to do much

I hope the rest of your treatment goes smoothly.. wishing you well! :growing_heart:

@nannywenz Wishing you well too :growing_heart:

@sausagedog it isn’t the path that any of us would choose, but definitely better to get the works if needed.

I still have fairly sizeable boobs left, so I do wonder where the 1.2kg went! I suspect they were like an accordion before and folded in

Do you feel ready for your surgery? I can imagine your in the spot where you want it to happen and just get it over with xx
