I have had 4 Phesgo injections and my oncologist is saying that 10 Kadcyla would be “good enough”. I had very small residual .5mm. Not sure if this is correct or I should proceed with the total of 14 Kadcyla. I have had 6 Kadcyla so far.
I had 8 Phesgo before my mastectomy and after my mastectomy my oncologist told me they wanted to swap me to Kadcyla and I would have all 14 doses of it, but I imagine perhaps they make that decision based on individual circumstances. I think you should ask for clarity.
I decided to stick with the phesgo in the end.
Wishing you all the best. X
I think I will be sticking with Phesgo I’ve been told unless my results are bad as he doesn’t want to give me anymore chemo as I got Sepsis and a DVT from the PICC line. I did enquire about Kadcyla but was told it’s only if you don’t get a 100% response or if there’s more than a few mm left as I read the recurrence is less and some peeps are on it regardless on the NHS.
Hi poppie
Thank you for your post.
It’s understandable you’re wondering how many cycles of Kadcyla is right for your situation following your treatment with Phesgo and breast cancer surgery.
In a situation like yours, when residual cancer cells are found in the breast tissue or lymph post-surgery, your treatment team will consider whether you may benefit from another drug treatment like Kadcyla. The aim of this treatment is to further reduce your risk of the breast cancer coming back anywhere in the body.
How many cycles of Kadcyla you are recommended to have is based as @jayesse suggests, on the individual features of your breast cancer. This includes the size of your breast cancer, how many lymph nodes had cancer cells, the grade of your breast cancer, hormone receptor and HER2 status.
You say that you have had 6 cycles of Kadcyla so far. Like with any drug, Kadcyla can cause side effects so how well you’re tolerating treatment can also sometimes impact on how many cycles of a particular treatment you may have. Your treatment team will weigh up the likely benefits against the potential side effects when deciding this.
You can speak to your oncologist or breast care nurse about what was meant by 10 cycles of Kadcyla would be ‘good enough’. It’s important that your treatment team know your questions and concerns as
they have all the details of your individual diagnosis and are in the best position to talk through the reasons for saying this. They can help to answer your questions and support you so you can make an informed decision about how many cycles of Kadcyla you receive.
