Kefir

Hello
My oncologist suggested I try kefir drinks to try and rebalance my gut and stop diarrhea caused by chemo. I’ve bought some but have no idea how much is recommended to drink each day.
Does anyone know? Has anyone tried it and found it to be helpful?
Thank you

No more than a cup, I believe - I used to have half a glass per day. One of my friends mixes it into her breakfast yogurt.

I tried it on recommendation from the oncological nutritionalist, and I think it did help. As you say, the gut is well out of balance after chemo and fermented foods of all kinds are supposed to be helpful. I don’t think things like Actimel are ‘strong enough’, but proper kefir seems to be more beneficial.

I’d recommend trying a few different types and find one you like. Personally I find the fruit flavoured ones to be a bit sickly, and a lot of the brands seem to be quite expensive. Tesco does a good value brand called Mlekovita that I found to be quite good.

I hope it helps you!

Thank you so much. I’ve bought 3 bottles to try - all different types!
Fingers crossed it helps. X

I take it with a teaspoon of dried blueberry powder mixed into it, about 150ml of the plain one.

Thank you. Has it helped you? X

I didn’t have chemo but radiotherapy. I just wanted to try and get immune system settled.
It certainly hasn’t hurt anything

Hello  i take psyllium husk to help regulate both diahrrea and constipation and works wonders . I put 3 TBSP in a cup.of warm water and this fiber makes its miracles. About kefir, any probiotic is benefiacial for your gut and your inmune system, probiotics foods can be fermented cabage, kimchi, miso , just few examples. Also eating great deal of veggies will give these good bacterias something to strive on. Sending you love

Thank you so much.
Will order some psyllium immediately!
