Kinesio taping

Has anyone had Kinesio taping to their breast for Lymphodema treatment?
I have tried compression bras and maddage but this has not helped so my Lymphodema nurse has suggested that i try this. I have had a patch test today and if thats ok I go back on Thursday to be taped up. She says I leave the tape on for 5 days at a time then reapply.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this done and has it helped in anyway

Hi Jools

I have had Kinesio taping in the past.

It did work to a certain extent for me, but only when the end strips were not cut too thin (you’ll know what I mean when they do it), as they have a tendency to lift off my skin otherwise. Nice wide strips worked much better as they stayed in place longer.

There are also different grades of Kinesio tape (some are more expensive than others, or are waterproof) and I think which quality you get also influences how effective it is.

Given a choice between kinesio taping and manual lymphatic drainage however, I would pick the MLD any day, but I think there is a place for Kinesio taping. (Are you getting MLD as well? - that would really be good) I understand some people find it more helpful than others.

Hi,

I’m a huge fan of kinesio taping as it 100% works for me.According to my physio I’m a textbook case & we have wondered about taking photos to prove it to anyone who questions the cost/effectiveness thing. I try to get it done weekly at the mo but if I go for 2 weeks without, the neck, arm & shoulder area start swelling again in quite an obvious way. Before it was tried I looked a bit like the hunchback of Notre Dame as the area above my left collarbone was so swollen & I was very lopsided ! Not had MLD but that may also be on the agenda & sounds good so fingers crossed - I’m game for anything to help with any of the side effects of this disease !!!

I was taped within an inch of my life in lovely bright pink Kineseo tape. I felt so much more comfortable with it on my man boob,( also known as dog ear) and also across my chest. I found it helpful and the swelling went down. OH was taught to strap me up but the result wasn’t as good.
I happened to have a pain in my back when I went to see lympho nurse, she strapped that as well and it felt so much better right away.

Good Stuff. Mind you there is no MLD on offer so I can’t compare it.

Hi Topper,

Oooh, bright pink tape - mine’s boring skin colour !! Would love it to come in several colours & could co-ordinate with my wardrobe as a new fashion accessory but don’t think the NHS would pay for it !!! Still, as long as it works I shouldn’t complain…

Hi Lizcat

Mine was on NHS and I was given a new roll to take on holiday. They also do a lovely turquoise. I was offered boring skin colour but …no thanks. Clearly our lympho nurse is a bit wasteful with NHS money … £9 a roll I think!
