Knitted prothesis

I have just discovered a website that gives a knitting pattern for knit your own prothesis. Somehow I’m really taken with the idea! The pictures look great.

Now I’m not allowed to give out the website but can point you in the right direction of the 05 fall issue of the american site knitty.

See what you think.

I am trying to imagine it Whizz, not having much success so would like the website. I think it would be very warm, so maybe good for the winter.
hey whizz maybe we should knit each other one and give them as a christmas pressie when we meet.

Brilliant - think I’ll get my sister on the case -she has a knitting bug at the moment!

Whatever next?

LIVERBIRD - if you google

knitty prosthesis

it comes up as the first site.

Thanks for the laugh Pauline, what a pity I’m not that skilled with knitting needles.

Magsi hun I am sure some nice kind soul on here will knit you one. My dear mum knitted, she would have loved this idea but she has long since departed this world.
Perhaps we can say what colour we want. a friend from church used to knit my girls the most awful stripey coloured jumpers, so i want a stripy one. Perhaps a Red and white one to wear for the footy match and i could streak across the pitch. Fink I need help!!!

Hi Crispy

Hi R.
Trying to get the image out of my mind of you streaking across a pitch complete with knitted prosthesis!!

When my boys were little one of their Auties used to knit them jumpers for Christmas.
They had to pose for a photo which I sent as a thank you and that was probably the last time they wore them.
I have a lovely picture of them when they were 3 and 5 wearing jumpers with reindeers on.

Now wheres that pattern? - at least I wont need much wool!!

I’m going to have reconstructive surgery soon and the PS has recommended that I fill a plastic bag with rice and wear it in my bra because that most accurately feels like what an implant will feel like (I am having an LD flap with an implant on the mastectomy side, and a prophylactic mastectomy on the healthy side with an implant).

I have done this now for several weeks and I have to say that it feels very good indeed. You health conscious people will be pleased to learn that I have used brown basmati! For the last year I had been wearing a “softie” pinned into my bra, and this feels much better.

Someone did make a joke, however, that I had all the ingredients for a rice pudding …

Strange thing is I’ve just started to knitt again and this website really cheered me up.

bye all

If you think that’s funny try Googling bird seed prosthesis for instructions on how to make one out of millet etc!

(Health Warning: Don’t go near any pigeons whilst wearing it)

aaarrrgghhhhh - I’ve just seen another tip for making a prosthesis out of balloons and fishing worms!

It doesn’t bear thinking about!

Tee hee. This thread has given me a much needed giggle. But what a great idea! Will go to sleep with that image of pigeons…

Much love all and you are such great women.

Google Make Your Own Bra Forms for a real laugh…they don’t look very natural I’m afraid, lolol.

Have just googled as suggested and hit a site that uses condoms and water to achieve the right shape - what can I say!
