Knitting a chemo cap anyone?

Hi,

I tried knitting a nice soft little hat, but it turned out far too big for my pin head (even if it was nice and soft). I’m now looking to try another (never give up, eh?) and so wanted to pick your brains this time about patterns and styles (?!) and what works (or doesn’t). I just want something simple and cosy to wear indoors.

Any hints for me so that I can get this one to work?

BTW I have three balls of Sirdar snuggly snowflake chunky to play with (maybe best not to ask …) and a freakishly small head.

Hi Tarragon,
you should be able to adapt the pattern and reduce the number of stitches according to your own measurements. try a tension square and work out how many stitches to go round your head. most patterns are made in multiples so its not too hard. i suspect your snuggly snowflake is on the fluffy side, so it should cover up the odd mistake! Good luck!

Hi Tarragon

Maybe you would have a better fit using a knitting pattern for a child. I have a small head and when I lost my hair I bought a couple of hats in the larger childrens sizes. Snowflake wool is lovely

Good Luck

Hey Lulu - thanks for that web site. What a selection! Surely I’ll be able to find something to fit there.

I had already adapted the pattern, Nicky, and tried a test square but it still came out too big, and of course I couldn’t really tell until I’d cast off. I’m considering putting in a sort of seam but guess that will just add unnecessary bulk and spoil the ‘shape’.

Off to research headhuggers
