So my hubby found a golf ball sized lump a week ago and GP referred me as it was ‘much larger than a grape’?! She was a locum and quite brusque, told me my recent blood test had come back abnormal (for a different health complaint) but I would need to discuss that with my regular GP at a different appointment. She didn’t take family history (gran had double mastectomy at under 40 and then hysterectomy but she’s in late 70s and still going strong ) and was a little curt as she was running late. Asked why I had let it get so big but I replied I’d been preoccupied with my jaw problem. She seemed annoyed which I found surprising as my usual GP is fantastic.
I hope to get the blood test results tomorrow and discuss what to expect at the breast clinic. I’m usually very stoic and pragmatic but feel a little anxious today as my husband is quite alarmed and emotional - men ?!
Can I ask if anyone had a cyst this size as I suspect that’s what it is?
Hi Naomi, I’m sorry to hear you were treated that this, Its not the norm when dealing with Breast issues I can assure you and the clinics in general are kind and considerate!
At the clinic they will give you a physical exam, then likely a Mammogram depending on your age and if needed an Ultrasound to double check, if they can’t dismiss your lump for certain as being harmless they will do a biopsy which would be a week or so wait for the results.
It could be any number of things but the only way to know for certain is to be seen at the breast clinic so you already have the ball rolling, I know it’s a stressful time but nothing you can do apart from wait now, it’s the hardest part but there’s no avoiding it!
It’s hard on our partners as they just want to protect us but this is beyond their control, keep yourselves busy and hopefully you will have an appointment through by the end of the week Xx Jo
Thank you for your kind reply, Jo. I’ve been lurking here for about a week but the wait is starting to get the better of me. I’m 35 so luckily the stats are in my favour. There is a large dent and puckering when I raise my arm to do a self exam but I think that’s just to accommodate the size of the lump.
I think I’ll feel more reassured when I see my regular GP tomorrow to discuss my blood results and fingers crossed the appointment comes through quickly so I have something to focus on! Trying hard to stay busy but I’m a teacher on Easter break; I actually can’t wait for work to distract me ?
Typical it’s at a time when your not working, teaching will keep you distracted that’s for sure!
Stay away from googling, if you start putting in your symptoms then of course Breast cancer is going to scream back at you but there are also other harmless things that can cause a lump too they just don’t always get reported on in the same way!
Let us know how you get on, we love the good news here too and always like to hear back on clinic outcomes Xx Jo
Hi Naomi, I’m 34 and I have found a lump (second on right breast last one was benign) for the past week I’ve been an emotional anxious wreck. I’m going to the breast clinic at the hospital tomorrow, luckily I know what to expect in terms of what will happen but the wait is just awful x
I had a 6cm irregularly shaped cyst and had to have 60ml of fluid drained ? Surgeon was delighted, as was sonographer, as it’s the biggest they’ve seen in a long time and were laughing about the ‘baby’ I had in there! ? I now have an enormous dent where it was! My boobie hurts as it was quite a procedure involving 3 syringes but I wanted to post as it’s such good news; despite being irregular, painless and enormous it was a mere cyst.
Thanks for all of the support from you ladies and I hope this assuages some anxiety for someone, somewhere!
