Last week

Hi all, I’m having my herceptin done at home and am very grateful my hospitla has funding for this. Last week was No 7.

Unfortunately, the treatment had to be aborted after 2/3 of the infusion as something went wrong with my vein and my arm started swelling up. Couldn’t get a vein on the other side so when the oncologists were contacted they said to finish for that one as they felt it might be too stressful. My own onc was a way on holiday last week, but I had a message yesterday to say she was trying to establish with the nurse what went wrong so they can decide whether I should go back to the hospital for the next one. I was told by my BCN not to get worried as I got some of it which was a lot better than getting none at all.

Anyone else been in this position? I just don’t like to think their are any implications from only getting a partial dose. Thankfully I’m really very well at the moment and looking to start a course and get a p/t job.

I’ve had to miss some treatment due to low blood count etc, and this week had to have Herceptin put off again. My onc said he’d just delivered a paper at a conference saying that Herceptin stays in your body for 3 months after, and is still being effective, so missing doses really isn’t a problem.
Hope this reassures you, and hope thay’re able to sort out the problem so you can carry on having it at home - sounds like luxury compared to the cattle-shed waiting room at our place, with all the hanging about all day!
All the best for your continuing good health.
