Hi all,
Have been considering recon for some time now. I hav seen a ps who advised ld flap with implant. (thought i was 34b, but he said more like 34c).
My oh is concerned though that as only an eight and a half stone weakling with not much strengh in arms anyway (struggle with bottle tops etc.) that i will be made even weaker. I,m right handed and mastect was on right side. I also dance which can be quite physical, a lot of lifting your arm to twirl under your partners arm. I have read on some threads that your ‘new’ boob can jump involuntarily. I would be horrified if my recon boob started to do a dance of its own!! (or is it not that noticeable to an onlooker?)
Please help.
Thanks

Hi Rosie
I have had LD/implants recon on both sides. I am quite skinny and do not consider myself as particularly strong. I can say that I am now back to my full strength that I had before. I too am right handed and I found I recovered much quicker and with less pain on the right side compared to the left. I own horses so I am quite active and it hasnt affected me more than the odd twinge now and then, which is getting less.
I have read about the jumping, but I have not had this happen in the slightest.
Hope this reassures you a bit.

Hi Rosie
Had LD recon & implant 3 months ago I’m 8st 9 have regained full use of my back can swim and do quite heavy garden work as before. Again I had read about the jumping boob but that hasn’t happened to me. I am really pleased with the result, it does take a while to get used to and to settle down but it does look good.
take care

My second op was 3 months ago too! I am bit heavier than you Ann, I have been gardenning but never managed to learn to swim…I was the child at school that just would NOT let go of the side.!!!

Thanks Anndi and Jacqc for your reassuring comments. I think i will start swimming to build myself up.
How did you both go on with the implants? Did you have to have them because you were over a 34b?
Anndi did you have your natural boob altered in any way? Hope you dont mind me asking.

Hi Rosie
I dont mind you asking at all.
I had implants because I did not have enough body fat to make 2 breasts. If I was having a single mastectomy I would have had a tummy flap op. I was a 32d and now I am 34dd. I think I have gone from a 32 to 34 due to the thickening caused by threading the muscle to the front.
I have not had any problems with the implants. I can feel it sometimes on one side and it bulges slightly into my cleavage which at first I didnt like but my surgeon reassured me it is ok, so I leave it alone now.
Ask away.

Hi Rosie
I am only a 34b so didn’t need anything doing on the other side. I didn’t like the idea of an implant but it does look really good, the only downside is it makes the other one feel a bit inferior as it is lovely and firm LOL. Am having the other side done sometime next year as I had DCIS also, and there are signs that it could also be on the other side.
My surgeon told me that the LD is a very natural looking recon, it does feel and look very natural.
Just ask if there is anything else you want to know.

Hi Jackie
Love gardening hate swimming. I know I need to get fit and get the muscles strengthened as since my op I spent a lot of time sitting around, so it’s nice to get back into something.
Take care

Hi both,
Wish i was on the other side like you. Just need to get the ball rolling. Its such a big decision. Just been on hol for a week tho, and that really brings it home to you when you look around and there are cleavages everywhere in swimwear. I couldnt wear some stuff cos i was conscious of bending forward all the time, and in other tops didnt look balanced (i think my prosthesis might be a bit small!). Its good to hear positive comments, thanks

Hi Rosie
Have they given you the option of an expander implant it was my original choice as it saves taking the back muscle ( no back scar ), but they said it didn’t look as natural. It’s another option to look at.

Hi Anndi,
The expander option was never mentioned to me. I dont know whether i would be eligible as my chest goes in where i had op and you can see my ribs. I dont know whether this is what is called a radical mastect. I will certainly ask when i book my appt with p.s.
