LD reconstruction for second time

Hi I had LD and immediate reconstruction on left side in January (BC), I am next week going in for same thing on right side (preventative). Has anyone else had similar thing and do you find your back is a problem? Now my fluid has gone from the back I find it sometimes tight and wondered how it would be with the two sides done. Or are there any further problems? Saying that im definately going ahead with operation as im high risk.

Hi Bakers,

I had bilateral recon using the ld method last May, and for a while it was uncomfortable having both sides affected, but now 10 months on and things are alot easier, tend to feel alittle tight first thing in the morning, but once I’m moving about it soon loosens up. I am now back doing kickboxing and on the treadmill getting my fitness back up to what it was pre cancer.

Hope this helps

Hi Bakers, I have had both sides “done” as well - the first in 2003 and the second eighteen months later. I don’t have any real problems - a bit of weakness when I fall over skiing and don’t know which arm to use to push myself back up again but for the most part I have well and truly got used to it.

Hi Bakers

I am in a similar situation to you. I had my first mast/LD recon done in January and was hoping to have second done anytime now. I have been told today, by my surgeon, there is a bed crisis at our hospital and I wont be admitted for at least a month. I was hoping to stay off work and have both ops done and go back when fully recovered from both. My job involves a lot of driving and can be quite confrontational at times and physical. I am also quite uneven at the moment and have to select outfits accordingly. I am going to feel quite self concious in my work uniform.

I was also wondering what it will be like to have both sides affected and isn’t it encouraging to read the responses from Karem and Deirdre. I have just started using bio-oil to see if it loosens up the tighness in my back.
Good luck with your op next week.

Jackie.

Thanks Jackie. If I remember rightly we have the same surgeon Susan Jones! I will keep you posted on how it all goes.

You have a better memory than I! Sorry I didn’t realise.

Are booked to go onto Peale ward? I was very impressed with my care on that ward. I wish they would find me a bed!!!

Please, one last question, how long ago did you receive your admission date? My boyfriend is trying to plan a break away for my 40th next month and I was wondering how much notice I will have.

Thanks.

Hi Jacke
I have had my treatment and op through private health insurance so I am actually at the Maidstone Somerfield, probably explains why I am not waiting for the bed! Susan Jones also works there. Its funny I am 40 at the end of May and have just started organising a party! we have similar situations. I will be glad when all of this is over, Im not too good going into hospital but then who is! take care
