hi ladies i went to see my surgeon yesterday with regards to recon and was told the tummy tuck was out of the question as i have a section scar right down the middle, i wanted the expander but he was concerned that because ive had radio my skin might not stretch so he said the best option for me would be the LD were they remove the muscle from my back. the questions i would like to ask is have any of you ladies had the expander after you have had radio i had my mascectomy in july 06 and finished chemo and radio jan07 and herceptin jan08 can you also tell me if you were happy with the results etc? i would also be interested in information regarding the LD recon thanks ladies xxx suzee
Yes I had LD flap with expander after radiotherapy. It has been bl**dy uncomfortable despite swapping the expander for a permanent silicon implant but that’s down to my build. From what I have read most ladies suffer no problems. I needed an expander to give volume as was 34B and flap alone was not sufficient. I am still glad I had it done because I felt it impossible to live with an ‘absence’.

I’m considering a TRAM flap as the better option for me. Have any of you ladies had it performed and are you happy with the results? It’s such a huge decision.
