Leaking months after vaccum assisted biopsy - worried

Hi I went for a vacuum assisted breast biopsy 7 months ago ,after being called back after a core biopsy due to suspicious looking sample.

I was initially told I likely had a first stage breast cancer but after the vacuum assisted biopsy it looked clear of cancer which was encouraging …I cant forget however that I was originally told it was Cancer. This is especially worrying as I still have breast pain on and off and clear fluid leaking.Should I go back to my GP and why would I be told it was Cancer and then that the results were ‘encouraging’ that it wasnt? Were they not sure? I have a star shaped Radial Scar suspicious area. Thanks

I’d definitely go see your GP or ring the breast clinic nurses. It shouldn’t still be leaking and you may have an infection at the biopsy site.

Hi @laurenb,

Thank you for posting.

It is understandable that you are worried about the breast pain and clear fluid leaking from your breast following a vacuum biopsy 6 months ago. You do not say if the clear fluid is leaking from the biopsy site or from your nipple, and this symptom along with breast pain can have many causes. They may be the result of your biopsy however, as the symptoms aren’t improving or going away it is important to be assessed again as @bluetit11 suggests.

It is natural to have questions about your results after initially being told that the area in your breast looked suspicious for cancer, and then being given a diagnosis of a radial scar. It is often not possible to clearly tell the difference between a benign radial scar and breast cancer on a mammogram which is why a biopsy was performed to confirm the diagnosis.

If you are still under follow up for your radial scar and have a breast care nurse you could contact them to discuss otherwise do contact your GP for a further assessment of the pain and leaking fluid you have noticed.
