HiLadies - What’s going on, can you help? Just back from seeing the plastic surgeon this morning, he’s advised me no more expansions, now on the waiting list for an op expected this side of xmas to change over from the expander to the permanent silicone implant. I’m Shocked - he said could be a 3 or 4 night stay in hospital, aknowledged he was being vague and said it wasn’t easy to say. Previously i was under the impression it would be 1 or 2 at most with a 2 week recovery - now he said could be 3 or 4 with a 2-3 week recovery. What’s that all about? Have to say i’m quite shaken by it - and the usual didn’t say too much at the time!!!
Any info much appreciated? why would that be the case?
Thanks
Lynn
Lynn, do you think he might have just been covering in case it takes longer, I suppose one never knows if there are complications etc. Could you check with the BCN, maybe the helpline here could say what to expect. Hope your pain is getting more bearable. Sorry about the upset, it’s never ending at the moment…!!
Lynn - I can only echo what Tina said, that he might be giving you “worst case scenario” saying it could take longer. I have nearly always found this when I have seen surgeon/onc/chemo nurse etc - they do tend to tell you what is the worst that could happen. Sorry that you’re upset though, it’s understandable, take care.

I had the same op earlier this year and was in hospital only 24 hours. One drain, taken out before i went home. Went for 2 mile walk near home the day after that (48 hrs post surgery). Felt fine. I’m 45, and had previously had mx/full ax clearance for which i stayed in 3 nights. Hope this helps - 3/4 days sounds like a long stop/worst case scenario.
Bump - Anyone else any thoughts? Cheers.
Lynn
I had an LD flap last Feb, no implant at the time, now I am going in on Friday to have implants in both sides - I am expecting to be in just overnight.
Hi there
I had my bi-lat 4 weeks ago with expanders inserted at the same time. Obviously many months away from your situation, unfortunately 'cos these expanders damn well hurt at the moment! Onwards and upwards!
I would say your guy is giving you a worst case. For my bi-lat I was supposed to only be in for three days, but my drains kept draining so they kept me in for a week until between me and surgeon we agreed it was getting to be a bit of nonsense and I went home without drains. Still going in twice a week because of seroma. I would say your guy is covering himself for that kind of excessive drainage. When I get my permanent implants I am expecting to be in overnight or at worst two nights, but given my current situation with seroma I wouldn’t be surprised if it all starts over. However, next time I will know to say “hey guys, I get lots of fluid, I get seroma, I will come in twice a week, LET ME OUT!”.
Not sure if that helps, but best of luck however it works.
