Has anyone heard of Letrizol? ( not sure if thats how you spell it) . It came up in conversation with the Oncology Consultant today when he said that he may prescribe Letrizol instead of Tamoxifen after surgery.
Yep! It’s Letrozole. I’m in a trial of Letrozole (marketed under the name Femara) v Anastrozole for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor and node positive BC. Both lower the amount of oestrogen. I have been on it for 11 months and the only problem has been a bit of stiffness. No compliants. Which hospital are you at?

Hi Margaret thanks for that. Its Bournemouth Hospital. Its for my daughter who is pre menopausal but she is already on Zoladex and so is considered the same as postmenopausal women as her ovaries are now not working due to the Zoladex. We were asking about going onto Tamoxifen and also asking about the awful side effects of it when he said that he may consider putting her onto Letrozole instead after her surgery for a mastectomy on Nov 12th. It certainly sounds as if there are less side effects .We have read about Tamoxifen and its side effects which has put my daughter off. With Zoladex she only has a few hot flushes which are bearable.

Hi Sue,
I was worried about the Letrozole side effects when I read the literature but, touch wood, nothing apart from the stiffness. I’m to be on it for 5 years in total. I’m at the Marsden (Surrey branch) and they strongly recommended it. I went on it post op and chemo and at the same time as starting rads. I wish your daughter well.

HI Sue,
I’ve been on Femera since May and the only side effect seems to be stiff joints, especially first thing in the morning.
Good Luck to your daughter,
Love
Mabel
Thanks Mabel… sounds much better than tamoxifen, that will cheer her up.
