Hi
Has anyone else had stiffness and joint pain, especially in the knees whilst having Zolodex implants and taking letrozole. I find that after I have been sitting for a while when I stand up it is really painful and takes me ages to get moving again, particularly around my kneecaps. Is this common?
Hello dawne11,
Yes!!
14 months of letrozole and 8 months of zoladex (monthly implants) have taken their toll!
I’ve just come off both these drugs as I’ve started a chemo trial and am waiting to see if the aches disappear.
I find it particularly bad first thing in the morning, myproblem areas are legs, feet, fingers and wrists. But anytime I sit, especially in a hard chair my legs stiffen up again. Try glucosamine, it’s what Marsden recommended to me.
Love

Hi Jackie
Thanks for the advice
I am 46 years old and have been told that I have got osteoporosis, for which I am taking medication, is it still okay to take the glucosamine.
Dawne
Hi Dawne,
snap, we’re the same age!!
I would have thought it was fine to take but always check with your onc or BC nurse before taking anything new. I used to get it from Holland & Barrett.
Sorry to hear about the osteoporosis, those hormonals aren’t helping there either.
Take care,

Hi Dawne,
I am the same - on zoladex & letrozole with stiff and aching legs, knees plus hands, fingers. That first straighten up out of bed in the morning is an effort and bending to sit on the loo it feels like my knees will give way (too much info maybe…!) I am 40 and feel about 70 (no offence to 70 yr olds) most mornings. I also have the same problems if I have been sitting for a long time, like watching a film or a longish car journey.

Hi Angee
I have noticed that my knees are worse if I sit down for a while to watch a film for example. I feel like I am about 90 years old most day and this morning it took me ages to even get out of bed I was so tired and achy.

At least we are not alone with our aching knees and various other joints. I went away to a hotel this weekend and had a full body massage which was excellent and really made my body feel slightly nearer by birth age for a while. It is not something I could afford all the time but it felt lovely while it lasted. I will look at the glucosamine gel - wonder if it might help the creaking knees?
Dawne, it takes me about half an hour most mornings to psyche myself up for the almighty effort that is getting out of bed so am with you there,

Hi everybody
I’m not on Zoladex but have been on Letrozole since October and know exactly where you’re all coming from re. the aches and stiffness. Can only add that my onc said take glucosamine with chondroitin plus since getting some energy back I’ve been trying to have a 30 min brisk walk most days, plus a swim at least once a week and I must admit its better. If I have a couple of sitting around days I notice the difference. As my OH says its better then if you don’t sit down, just keep doing the housework!!
Cheers

I am not on Zoladex but have been on Letrozole for more than two years. At the beginning I had quite a few aches and pains in my joints, especially in the morning when it was very hard to flex my ankles enough to go downstairs, however I’m pleased to say that I am now free of thie aches and stiffness. Either that or I’ve just got used to them! I think it took nearly a year for my body to adjust. I know we are all different but there is hope:-).
