Letrozole and raised Hba1c levels

Hi I have been taking Letrozole for 12 months post lumpectomy. I have had my routine bloods taken as part of my annual review at the GPs and my blood sugar levels have increased significantly. There is a family history of type two diabetes which is not great so I am susceptible to this at age 61. I am now borderline type 2 diabetic :disappointed:
My concern is has anyone else experienced raised blood sugar levels who is susceptible to type 2 diabetes whilst taking letrozole ?
How have you managed this as I eat healthy and exercise. I really don’t want medication :confused:x

Hi. Back in February I was in the same position as you. I had been taking letrozole for just over a year. Had blood tests and my Hba1c level came back at 53. I queried letrozole and whether it had anything to do with it but was told no ( even though I had read it could. ) I was told to only eat things with less than 10g of sugar per 100g. When my blood tests were repeated 6 weeks later it had come down to 43. For someone with a sweet tooth I thought I would struggle but I’ve found it surprisingly easy. I’ve much more energy and I’ve lost over a stone. I sure you will get your levels where they need to be soon.

Thank you for your positive response. I like you have read that letrozole can have an effect on blood sugars.
I do eat healthy but will now look at the sugary food contents.
You are doing amazing :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hi aug,

Thank you for posting.

Raised blood sugar levels are not a recognised side effect of letrozole However Cancer Research UK state that there is some evidence to suggest that hormone therapies can increase blood sugar levels.
