Letrozole & oxybutynin

Hi

I have been on Letrozole for 16 months and the hot flushes seem to be getting more frequent during the day.

I know when I had my follow up appointment last year the dr said I could try oxybutynin as I have been taking fluoxetine for many years to help with menopause symptoms but they don’t seem to be doing much now so was wondering about changing.

Has anyone else been given oxybutynin to help with hot flushes and have they helped at all?

Thanks everyone for reading

Hi chillout, I take 20mg Citalopram for the flushes and it definitely helps.Hope you have some success with it.xx

I have been on Oxybutynin for hot flushes for about 6 months. I was having flushes every two hours and it has reduced them on the day time, however I still seem to get them at night. I hope it works for you. I tried Fezolinetant (Veoza) for 6 months on private prescription and it worked much better but the costs were too much. Hopefully Elinzanetant has been agreed by MHRA and awaiting NICE to approve for NHS and it works in a similar way and also helps with sleep,

I did a CBT course for Hot Flushes via the Menopause Clinic which was somewhat helpful. It was about reframing your thoughts, not catastrophising everything about the hot flush and changing your behaviour towards them. The thoughts were about not feeling that everyone was looking at you, that they will pass and a big thing was to do deep diaphragmatic breathing to help relax you. With behaviour, that was not throwing the bedcovers off, or getting angry with yourself or avoiding people because you got embarrassed by the flushes. Maybe worth trying to see if you can get on the course, it is available on the NHS.

Hi Jowels

Thank you for your reply. I had citalapram many years ago for a totally different reason, all they made me do was eat more and put on weight, as I have already put on a good 1 to 2 stone I’m a bit hesitant to take these again but thank you for letting me know that they are working for you.

Hope your doing well

Hi naughty_boob

Thanks for your reply, I’m definitely in the throwing the covers off at night but then two minutes later I’m cold and dragging them back on. I’ve definitely no problem sleeping I got 12 hours Saturday night, in fact I seem to be the total opposite to others who can’t sleep, I can’t wake up :woman_shrugging:

I tend to get hot when I get into bed or if my sleep gets disturbed and I get woken for something.

I’m just fed up of one minute I’m hot so taking clothes off the next I’m cold and putting them back on, I don’t go red so people wouldn’t know how I’m feeling with furnace inside me.

I’ve got a gp appointment this week so I’m going to ask him if I can swap from fluoxetine to the oxybutynin which the hospital suggested last year.

Hope your doing well
