Letrozole side effects and Brain MRI

Has anyone suffered headaches as a side effect of letrozole? I’ve been on letrozole a few months but started with a different brand (Rudipharm) a couple of months ago and since then have had a tension headache everyday. It’s not painful but there all the time. Has anyone else suffered with this?

I went to the breast clinic a couple of weeks ago and they sent me for a brain mri which I hope rules out anything else. Has anyone else had a brain mri and how long did it take for the results? I had mine on Tuesday and struggling to think about anything else.

Thank you x

oh dear so sorry your headaches are so frequent. I hope the results will be good - that you are having daily tension headaches. If this is the case, I have found practising relaxation daily helps. I start counting slowly as I breathe in 1,2,3,4 etc until I can breathe in no more. Then I slowly breathe out, counting very slowly again. While I do this, I lie down with my eyes closed with a face mask over my eyes.

It calms me down no end.

I can’t be flapping about up above splatting people below without resting myself fully in between can I?

Hi, I’ve been on Letrozole for almost five months. I was on Glenmark and Sun Pharma brands at the beginning and I didn’t have any side effects from them. Then, recently I got the Rudipharm brand and I started to have arms and neck aches, and they gradually got worse. I also started to have headaches and dizziness to the point they were so debilitating that I couldn’t go out for a walk. I contacted the GP who advised me to stop the Letrozole immediately and told me not to take the Letrozole for a few days. She gave me the prescription for Letrozole mentioning the previous brands and I had to contact different pharmacies as my usual chemist didn’t have the brands I needed. All my symptoms cleared out in a few days after I stopped the Rudipharm brand. It maybe possible that you have a reaction from the fillers like in my case. Best wishes xx

After about a year on Anastrazole ( same brand), I had dizziness . Bloods showed nothing , so I was sent for head MRI . The dizziness had actually gone by the time I got the clear MRI. Lack of oestrogen can affect your ears - balance . There are oestrogen receptors all over your body ! 12 months later , I’ve had a bit of dizziness again but I’m on a different brand of Anastrazole ( supply issue ). If the MRI comes back clear , it’s probably the meds . It’s in the list of side effects in the leaflet

Thank you so much for your replies.

My head scan came back clear which is a big relief so assuming it is the letrozole. Will speak to my oncologist about it and try get a different brand to try in the meantime.

thanks again for your replies xx

Hi, that’s great news that your results came back clear. As the ladies above have already said it could be due to the brand you were given. I started on Cipla with no side effects then was given Amarox and ended up with headaches and such bad pain in my back I could barely move, let alone work. After a short break to get that out of my system I’m back on Cipla and few side effects :crossed_fingers:t2: Definitely speak to your GP to see if they can state a brand on your future prescriptions as mine have been able to do the pharmacist ordered in the brand I needed. Good luck xx
