Hi ladies, just a question for you. I have been prescribed today letrozole and was told after a computer calculation I have a 1 in 50 chance of the cancer returning if I take it. I stupidly didn’t ask what my chances were if I didn’t? As I still suffer with hot flushes I’m just wondering if it’s actually worth taking it. Have been told it can make the flushes worse. Also if I do take it, is there a best time of day to take them. I was thinking at night so if I get any side effects I will hopefully sleep through them, although I do have trouble sleeping anyways, will it make my insomnia worse? Aaargh!!! Bloody cancer, so fed up with it all !!!
Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks Pat.
Whilst you wait for the other users to reply you might find it useful to read the BCC booklet on letrozole. It
discusses what letrozole is, how it works, benefits and possible side effects. If you would like to read this on line or order a copy just use the link below:-
Also if you need to talk things through do give the helpline a call on 0808 800 6000. Here you share your concerns with some one who will offer you a listening as well as support and practical infromation. The lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.
Hi pattyp. I also have down in my notes to be prescribed letrozole but think it’ll be tamoxifen now as I’m classed as peri menopausal having had a period within the last year. I too am going through the menopause with hot flushes, sleep disturbance, etc. So I didn’t think these drugs would make our symptoms worse as we are already having them. In fact my breast care nurse told me the other day that it may speed things up so I get through these symptoms quicker by taking the medication. I think it is more awful for people who have not yet started with menopausal symptoms as it brings them on.
I have been on Letroxole for 6 weeks now and so far only a few hot flushes. Hopefully that is all I will get. I it is hard to decided what is best for us but if it keeps me alive I will try it.
