Following this. I have life insurance but it runs out in a few years before my mortgage does as I forgot to lengthen it when I remortgaged. I’ve not got critical illness either so feeling pretty vulnerable and interested to hear from others. Oh the joys of hindsight.
Hi
Some companies will provide life cover and will ask for as much information up front to determine the risk and premium( likely to be higher than someone without a cancer diagnosis)
Your policy may have whats called a special event option ( birth, marriage, etc) which means the cover can normally be increased without further underwriting
Its probably best to talk to an independent financial adviser than trying to use a comparison site to find the options available to you and don’t forget that you or your partner might have life cover ( death in service,) through your /their job, or as part of a credit card package or other policies you have
Hi. Did you take out life insurance with your critical illness policy? Mine was attached to the main life policy and they pay out if you have IDC but not DCIS.
I’ve been told I won’t get any top up cover now until 3 years have passed from end of treatment which for me is next month. I’m with L&G, may be different for other providers. I’ll have to take out a new policy to top up my existing. Hope that helps a bit!
Thank you for this i have been having a massive sudden panic and didnt know if my life insurance critical cover would stop or payout this has helped thank you im with lg and phoning them Tuesday. X
You get your payout from the critical illness policy if you have an invasive BC, it doesn’t matter what grade or stage. As previously mentioned, DCIS not.
Once you have the payout the critical illness element of the policy will stop and they won’t renew it, but your existing life cover will continue. You won’t be able to get any more life cover for at least 3 years after treatment/diagnosis.
