Despite of the NICE guidlines. I dont think this hospital offers MRI scan for young heriditary cancer patients. MRI scan is an important tool along with mammogram for screening. In my case mammogram failed to show the tumour which I found out myself. If MRI scan would have been done…the tumour would have been found earlier. anyone with similar experiences?

Yes I was dx with lobular cancer. Had mammogramm which was clear, month later felt lump but thought it couldn’t be anything sinister so left it a month and when puckering of skin started went to doctor. Was told MRI would habe picked it up.

Hi my mammogram, CT and ultrasound all failed to identify the cancer in my breast - it had moved to the lymph nodes which they did pick up but I often wnder if I had had a MRI the year before if it would have showed then before it moved out to the lumph nodes. Only the MRI showed the breast cancer (it was only 0.4cm but had already caused regional spread no obvious signs or symptoms to be felt etc). Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I can’t change things now but it is important that more people realise for those with high family risk or genetic risk that MRIs are offered in conjunction with Mammos.
